A trove of racist, homophobic and sexist WhatsApp texts have been discovered on a phone belonging to a dead officer, exposing the dark underbelly of Gwent Police.Ricky Jones spent 26 years in the force before he died by suicide in January 2020.One of his adult children recently went through his phone and found thousands of disturbing messages which were sent between he and 41 other serving and retired officers.The messages exposed a shocking and toxic culture of cruelty and misogyny at almost every level of the force.Members of the chat groups reportedly regularly shared pornographic content and made debasing comments about junior staff, particularly females.Speaking to The Sunday Times, one of the victims, a junior cop, said she was told by a male colleague she’d move quicker through the ranks if she ‘sucked people off’.
