A juvenile from Mount Joy has been charged with disseminating child sexual abuse material over social media and attempting to destroy evidence when police began investigating. According to the Mount Joy Borough Police Department, a 14 year-old boy has been charged with eight counts of sexual abuse of children, five counts of terroristic threats, witness intimidation, indecent assault and other related offenses following a monthlong investigation. Police say the boy shared seven pieces of sexual abuse material to a groupchat on the social media and messaging app Snapchat in September. Once police began investigating, they say the boy attempted to interfere by intimidating two witnesses into giving false information to investigators. According to police, the boy had indecent contact with a 12-year-old child and threatened to commit acts of violence against five additional victims ranging from the age of 13 to 32. The defendant destroyed a cellphone with the intention of preventing detectives from obtaining evidence, according to a statement released by Mount Joy Police on Tuesday following the boy’s arrest.
