Wife of Israeli Director Killed in Hamas Terrorist Attack Recounts Escaping Home With Daughter

The wife of filmmaker Yahav Winner, who was killed in the Oct. 7 Hamas terrorist attack on Israel, is recounting the moment she escaped from her home with her 4-week-old daughter. Shaylee Atary Winner recently spoke with the USC Shoah Foundation, which was founded by Steven Spielberg in 1994, as part of its initiative to collect testimonies from survivors of the attack. Early that October morning, Shaylee said she and her husband, director of The Boy, silently agreed that she would take their daughter, Shaya, and run as Yahav fought off a Hamas terrorist who was trying to get into their safe room. Shaylee recalled running down the roads of Kibbutz Kfar Aza with her daughter in her arms as shots exploded nearby.
