Veteran St. Lucie deputy suspended six days after Facebook comments

LUCIE COUNTY − A 10-year veteran deputy with the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office was suspended six days after investigators determined he made inappropriate comments on social media regarding the agency, according to internal affairs records obtained July 3. Deputy Ronald Parker, a detention deputy who joined the agency in August 2014, received the suspension in connection with the May 5 comments, records show. The jail is at 900 N. Rock Road, north of Orange Avenue between Florida’s Turnpike and Interstate 95. Investigators determined Parker violated a rule regarding “criticism of orders or policies,” records show. Sheriff’s officials found the comments were made under a Facebook post with an image of Sheriff Richard Del Toro and several classification staff members. An overlay stated, “National Corrections Week May 4th-10th.” “Great picture of Classification … (expletive) Sad,” Parker commented.
