High school football head coach resigns month after assistant coach arrested for grooming

The head coach was put on administrative leave during the investigation and never returned to work. FAUQUIER COUNTY, Va. — Just over a month after former assistant football coach Gary Robert “Bobby” Hix was arrested for allegedly grooming students and asking them for nude images on social media, Kettle Run High School’s head football coach has resigned. Gym teacher and head football coach Charlie Porterfield was placed on administrative leave during the investigation at the same time as Hix and another Kettle Run employee on March 11. Though the other employee returned to work as normal at the high school after Hix’s arrest, Porterfield remained on administrative leave. During a Fauquier County School Board meeting Monday night, Fauquier County Public Schools Superintendent Major Warner ended the list of announcements with a quick statement announcing Porterfield’s resignation, but did not go into any more details.  “We did have a community meeting at Kettle Run recently just to discuss some of the concerns and questions that they had there, and I did want to offer to our community because I shared that once I had an update I would share the update, but Mr. Charles Porterfield has tendered his resignation from Fauquier
