Plans to tackle existential threat to cricket club approved | Bradford Telegraph and Argus

A CRICKET clubhouse can host services for disabled adults after councillors were told one long running club faced an “existential threat” to its future. When permission was granted for a new clubhouse at Bolton Villas Cricket Club on All Alone Road in 2006, one condition was that the building could only host events linked to the club. But amid declining membership and tightening finances, the club has recently looked at other ways of utilising the building. The club applied to Bradford Council to lift the restriction so the clubhouse can also be used by an organisation that works with adults with disabilities. At a meeting of the Bradford Planning Panel on Wednesday members voted to approve the change. The application said: “The proposed extension of use will allow for modest, community focused activities specifically for members of the community who need person-centred care and support, at times outside of match days to ensure the site remains vibrant and financially sustainable. “The current membership has changed in terms of diversity and communities where alcohol provision is not the main social activity. “The club no longer relies on this model of income generation.
