The Government of India has launched a new service that allows citizens to access free legal assistance through WhatsApp. The initiative, called Nyaya Setu, was announced by the Ministry of Law and Justice on social media platform X. Through the Nyaya Setu WhatsApp chatbot, users can seek legal information and guidance across multiple areas, including civil and criminal law, defence matters, corporate issues and family disputes. The ministry said the service aims to bring “ease of justice” directly to people’s smartphones. Sharing details on X, the Ministry of Law and Justice stated that citizens can simply verify their mobile number to access a single, unified platform for legal advice and information, ensuring quick and easy access to professional legal help. How to use Nyaya Setu on WhatsApp To use the service, users need to save the number 7217711814 on WhatsApp. The contact may appear as Tele-Law. After verifying their mobile number, users can interact with the AI-powered Nyaya Setu chatbot to receive legal guidance and information. However, shortly after the launch, several users reported technical issues while using the chatbot. Some complained of errors and questioned why the service was launched on WhatsApp instead of an indigenous platform like Arattai.
