Ramp closure with signed detour in place to begin as early as Aug. 12 through late 2026 Ramp closure with signed detour in place to begin as early as Aug. 12 through late 2026 PORTSMOUTH — Starting as early as Aug. 12, contractor crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) are scheduled to implement a temporary closure of the on-ramp from southbound Frederick Boulevard (Route 17) to Interstate 264 (I-264) west, to allow for ongoing noise wall construction activities adjacent to the roadway along I-264 in Portsmouth. During the closure, a signed detour will be in place directing motorists traveling south on Frederick Boulevard to continue to Portsmouth Boulevard and follow posted detour signs to access the I-264 west on-ramp. This ramp closure is estimated to remain in place through late 2026. Additionally, the project will have an overnight off-ramp closure from I-264 east to Frederick Boulevard (exit 5) Aug. 10 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. for pavement striping work.
