Previously users wanting to upload had to modify the “user agent” to fool the social media app into thinking they were on a mobile device or other third-party tools. This was despite other functionality, like sending direct messages, viewing feeds and watching Stories all being available on non-mobile platforms. However, multiple users have posted on Twitter they’re seeing the functionality when accessing Instagram on desktop. It’s now been confirmed by Facebook, the owner of Instagram. “We know that many people access Instagram from their computer,” Facebook spokesperson Christine Pai told Bloomberg in a statement. “To improve that experience, we’re now testing the ability to create a Feed post on Instagram with their desktop browser.” According to screenshots posted by social media consultant Matt Navarra, that also includes the ability to choose different ratios than those available on the mobile app, as well as the familiar filters and basic image editing tools.
