The Silver Comet: the train that predated the trail – Cobb County Courier

The first time we ran an earlier version of this story our page-views per month were around 10,000, so the article didn’t get a great deal of readership. Now we’re at around 200,000, and the Silver Comet has taken on increased importance to the county with the Chattahoochee RiverLands project, and the move to extend the Silver Comet Trail to both sides of the river, Cobb and Fulton, via the Connect the Comet project] Ralph McGill stood on the platform on track 13 of New York’s Pennsylvania Station waiting for the festivities to begin.  It was noon on May 18, 1947.  The veteran reporter for the Atlanta Constitution had written stories on subjects ranging from sporting events, to Cuba’s 1933 revolution, to southern race relations.
