Mookie Betts likely won't play this weekend vs. Nationals because of injury

WASHINGTON — Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts is unlikely to play this weekend in the team’s series against the Nationals, manager Dave Roberts said Friday. Betts left Thursday’s game early because of a left foot injury.In his first at-bat Thursday, Betts fouled a ball off the inside of his foot. While he stayed in the game until the eighth inning — reaching base three times on a pair of walks and a hit-by-pitch while also playing right field — he left the stadium on crutches after his foot “stiffened up as the game progressed,” Roberts said.Betts had an X-ray on Thursday night that came back negative. However, Roberts said the MVP candidate underwent a CT scan in Washington on Friday to ensure there was no further injury. Betts could also get an MRI scan, Roberts said.“We’re doing the whole gamut,” Roberts said. “Just to make sure we have all the information.”Roberts said Betts — who was not at the ballpark before Friday’s game while undergoing testing — was feeling better Friday and off his crutches.“I’m hopeful,” Roberts said of Betts’ prognosis. “Just considering that he felt much better today than last night is a positive.
