Home Marietta Marietta police vehicle (Cobb County Courier/Larry Felton Johnson) Posted By: Larry Felton Johnson September 19, 2023 According to a public information release from Officer Chuck McPhilamy of the Marietta Police Department a sixteen-year-old Marietta teen was killed when her car burst into flames after crashing into a tree. The incident happened Monday evening at around 5:37 p.m. Cobb 911 dispatched Marietta police and firefighters to the scene. The car was in a wooded area of Burnt Hickory Road near Devonwood Trail. When officers and firefighters arrived, they discovered a 2016 Volvo XC90 engulfed in flames, with the fire spreading to the surrounding area. Once the fire was extinguished, they located the driver, who had been trapped within the vehicle. Marietta Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) officers were called in to Investigate the crash. The investigation remains open and anyone with information is asked to contact STEP Investigator Roper at 770-794-5357.
