After misrepresenting his intentions while promoting his new film Sitaare Zameen Par’s theatrical release, Aamir Khan has now said that he would love for the movie to be made available on streaming platforms. Aamir had previously declared that the comedy drama would be exclusively released in theatres, before going back on his word and announcing a pay-per-view model in partnership with YouTube. Appearing on The Town podcast, hosted by Matthew Belloni, Aamir said that he has “always wanted” the movie to get a streaming release as well, but it would have to be three months after its YouTube run. Aamir said that Sitaare Zameen Par cost $14 million (roughly Rs 122 crore) to produce, and that he turned down virtually the same amount from streaming platforms. They wanted to release the film two months after its theatrical debut, which Aamir wasn’t comfortable with. However, he made it available on YouTube for Rs 100 just six weeks after its theatrical release. Aamir said that by then, the film had already run its course in theatres.
