The founder and chair of PR agency Beattie Communications has resigned as chairman after sharing a “tone deaf” LinkedIn post about hiring staff. Gordon Beattie was criticised at the time for the post he claimed was trying to highlight his company does not discriminate, with the first paragraph being “deliberately controversial”. Barrington Reeves, creative director at Glasgow-based brand agency Too Gallus and founder of the Black Scottish Business Fund, labelled Beattie “racist” and “homophobic” over his “insensitive” post. Beattie wrote: “At Beattie Communications we don’t hire blacks, gays or Catholics”, adding that the company only takes on “talented people” and does not care about their skin colour, sexual orientation or religion.
