"At that stage, everybody needed a bit of a party and it was a really good tool for community engagement to make people aware that we are here and that we provide a service,  » Read More

Efforts underway to save 67-year-old boating clubhouse in Sioux City – KTIV

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - The Missouri River Boat Club has droughts and floods. But some of that flooding has taken its toll on organization’s clubhouse, which is much closer to the Big Sioux River because of erosion. The Missouri River Boat Club has a great piece of waterfront property. But that waterfront property has been both a blessing and a curse. It’s a good thing for the views of the club members but it’s a bad thing when the water levels have risen and flooded over the last several years. That’s led some people to believe the club is actually closed. But it does plan to reopen. And those plans are in the works right now.“But what happened in 2019, when the river went down, it sucked all the bank out and we lost our front patio,” said Dennis Butler, the fleet captain for the club. “We had to take the roof down our long patio and eventually have to take down at least half the clubhouse because of the erosion coming back to us that way and flatten out the bank a little bit.”Several previous attempts to beat back the water failed.  » Read More

Langford Bike Park Opens New Trails, Clubhouse on the Way

Read All Latest NewsLangford Bike Park Opens New Trails, Clubhouse on the WayMay 10, 2022Ground was broken Tuesday to build a clubhouse at Langford’s Jordie Lunn Bike Park, while an extension to its trail system was also unveiled. The park was named in honour of Jordie Lunn, an accomplished cyclist who died from a head injury suffered while trail riding in Mexico in 2019. Langford Mayor Stew Young said the new trail system is designed to provide biking and hiking for people of all ages on more than 130 acres of land. He said nine trails opened Tuesday and three more will be in place by the end of the year. Cyclist Merin Pearce, 24, said the new trails will provide a chance for people, including youth, to experience more areas of the property. “I think it’s amazing that kids have an opportunity to ride somewhere close to home and develop the skills in a safe park.” Young said Westhills Land Corp.  » Read More

Elon Musk gets Twitter's Trump ban all wrong – Quartz

Elon Musk wants to reinstate the Twitter account of former president Donald Trump, the billionaire Tesla and SpaceX CEO said at a Financial Times event on May 10. Musk, who is in the process of buying the popular social media website, said he disagrees with the decision to ban Trump from Twitter for inciting the violent takeover of the US Capitol last Jan. 6, a riot in which 150 law enforcement officers were injured and at least two killed, alongside several rioters.Musk called the ban a “morally bad decision,” a “mistake,” and “foolish in the extreme.” He added it “alienated a large part of the country and did not ultimately result in Donald Trump not having a voice.”  Banning him, he argues, only “amplified his voice among the right.”But banning Trump was an apparent success for Twitter, at least for its stated aims. As a private company, Twitter is free to create rules for its users and enforce them—even if those users are world leaders. Before Jan. 6, Twitter repeatedly flagged Trump’s false tweets with warning labels and,  » Read More

Spotify Stations Is Shutting Down | PCMag

Spotify Stations is being shut down.TechCrunch reports that Spotify decided to pull the plug on the internet radio app, which debuted in 2019, but has assured users they'll be able to listen to their stations in the primary application.Spotify didn't explain why it's decided to shut down Stations, but the company did say in a statement to TechCrunch that "we routinely conduct a number of experiments to create better listening experiences for our users," and that the "Spotify Stations Beta was one of those tests."It does seem like Spotify Stations was a particularly long-running test, given that it's been around for nearly three years, but apparently Spotify has decided it's time for the app to bid adieu. Shutting down Stations also seems to be part of broader changes at Spotify. The company redesigned its primary app in 2021, rebranded its Clubhouse-like Greenroom feature to Spotify Live in March, and finally launched its Car Thing hardware in April. Recommended by Our Editors Spotify Stations users will reportedly have until May 16 to transfer their stations from Stations to Spotify proper;  » Read More

Colorado Rockies Sam Hilliard showing patience, comfort in new clubhouse – – Mile High Sports

Apr 28, 2022; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA; Colorado Rockies center fielder Sam Hilliard (22) and shortstop Alan Trejo (13) prepare to bat during the ninth inning against the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park. Mandatory Credit: Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports A lot of people are asking themselves the same questions about the Colorado Rockies right now. How have they gotten off to a 15-10 start despite incredibly low pre-season predictions? Is it all inevitably going to fall apart when the road trips come? And what are the indicators that they might be able to hang on in, so far, the toughest division in MLB? One thing that the club itself keeps pointing to is the number of contributions they’ve gotten out of just about every member of the roster. Look no further than their recent series win which saw their two least productive bats from April, Brendan Rodgers and Garrett Hampson, knock in seven runs in the deciding game. So, you might be inclined to look at Sam Hilliard’s relatively pedestrian numbers so far and reach the conclusion that he is now the one most in need of breaking out.  » Read More

VanMeter pressed into duty as emergency catcher – MLB.com

May 7th, 2022CINCINNATI -- Josh VanMeter is not a catcher. The last time he suited up behind the dish was in high school. He has not caught a game as a professional. So when the backup catcher was ejected and the starting catcher sustained an injury, what was going through VanMeter’s head? For the first time since high school, VanMeter, the Pirates’ second baseman and emergency catcher, threw on a chest protector and shin straps, catching an inning in Pittsburgh’s 9-2 loss to the Reds on Saturday at Great American Ballpark after Roberto Pérez exited with left hamstring discomfort. Pérez was later transferred to the 10-day IL with a left hamstring strain, and Michael Perez had his contract selected from Triple-A Indianapolis. All things considered -- and there is a lot to consider -- VanMeter handled the assignment pretty well.“He did an admirable job,” said manager Derek Shelton. “Getting back there in a tight game and having to do what he did, I give him a ton of credit.”When Pérez was laying on the dirt in the top of the eighth inning after collapsing trying to round second base,  » Read More
