Diehard Diecast Clubhouse | The Daily Star

Members of Club Diecast held its very first meet last month, on March 26,  as diecast collectors, aficionados and friends and families all came under one roof in Thai Emerald, Gulshan. Twenty plus tables displayed and showcased the scaled pride and joys of diehard model car collectors, from 1:64 scales to 1:12 and everything in between, while newbies had the chance to dip their feet into the world of diecast collecting, thanks to some sellers setting up shop. Naturally, one would find themselves in serious trouble here if they were to mistakenly refer to the model cars on display as toys. Formed by the ex-members and admins of Diecast Car Club Bangladesh, the Facebook group has now garnered over 300 like-minded members and collectors alike. The display section was chock full of expensive model cars, some costing as much as, if not more than a 1:1 car, such as a pair of 1:12 scale McLaren F1 and SLR on display, or the pair of 1:18 CMC Mercedes.  » Read More

Lakewood trustees express concerns about funding options for possible new RedTail clubhouse

Plans to move forward with a new clubhouse at village-owned RedTail Golf Club in Lakewood have run into a snag over who is going to pay for it.The proposed option of using alternative revenue bonds, a form of long-term debt where an identified revenue stream is meant to pay back the loans but is ultimately backed by property tax dollars, drew pushback from village trustees and residents who worried that if RedTail didn’t show a profit, they would end up footing the bill.“We’re concerned about an increase in taxes,” said Lakewood resident Cheryl Lockwood, adding that other residents remembered the tax hike when the clubhouse was first built 30 years ago.The Lakewood Village Board is hoping to fast track a decision on the clubhouse, which would include a banquet space and bar, in part because of concerns about the facility’s condition.“That thing is falling apart,” Trustee Brian Augustine said. “With what it looks like now and considering the cost of upkeep, it makes zero sense to continue using that same facility.”The current structure,  » Read More

By Robert Williams Editor There is a very noticeable absence at Maple Hills Golf Club after the passing of course creator and fixture Les Kertscher last October at the age of 86.  Regulars at the golf course were just getting used to not seeing his wife Pat after she passed away in October of 2018. Their son Ron has been the superintendent and every other job title a golf course can have for nearly half a century at a job where the regular workday is sun up to sun down seven days a week.  “I had a heck of a time when he first passed away,” said Kertscher. “I’d always come down here, check on him and cook him breakfast.” Like every golfer,  » Read More

Chardon Polka Band leader Jake Kouwe is new owner of Chip's Clubhouse in … – News-Herald

Don’t be surprised if you hear the oom-pah-pah of polka tunes while visiting Chip’s Clubhouse in Chardon. Although details still have to be worked out, Kouwe, who leads the nationally known Chardon Polka Band and recently purchased the miniature golf establishment, assures folks that “absolutely there will be music there.” Thoughts of buying the business at 214 5th Ave. began when Kouwe and his wife Emily took to the putting course for some fun a few years ago. At the time the couple was expecting twins and decided to replace their usual interests of kayaking and camping with the somewhat less rigorous activity of mini-golf. Chardon Polka Band leader Jake Kouwe has some fun at his recently purchased miniature golf business, Chip’s Clubhouse in Chardon.
