‘Welcome to the Philly party’: Phillies, Max Kepler exhale after rough stretch – Chat Sports

PHILADELPHIA – The Phillies have had a fog machine in the home clubhouse since 2022, the year where everything changed. It sits in one of Zack Wheeler’s lockers. It was upgraded a year later. Smoke fills the room. It sometimes sneaks into the hallway after big wins. The visibility was nearly zero as reporters walked into the clubhouse 20 minutes after the final out. Only the silhouette of Saturday’s starter Cristopher Sánchez could be seen as he sat at his locker. He laughed. “Welcome to the Philly party,” Sánchez said. A lot has been made about what this Phillies season has felt like.  » Read More

The Trump administration deployed thousands of National Guard troops and mobilized hundreds of active-duty Marines to Los Angeles, California to control days-long protests sparked by ICE raids in the city, over the objections of the mayor and the governor. We spoke to several people about the situation, including California Gov. Gavin Newsom who said the mobilization was "illegal," and a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security who defended the decision. Plus, Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy spoke to Morning Edition about why he voted for President Trump, how he disagrees with him and whether he could support Democrats, and Questlove joined us to talk at length about Ladies & Gentlemen... 50 Years of SNL Music. The Astros are rolling, but injuries are testing Houston’s depth – The Athletic

June 14, 2025Updated 12:10 pm EDT HOUSTON — Still in a dirt-stained uniform, Jacob Melton trudged across an almost empty clubhouse Friday night. He bore almost no weight on a sprained right ankle that dimmed the delight of his first big-league extra-base hit — a perfect personification of the Houston Astros’ predicament. A deluge of injuries is overshadowing Houston’s most dominant stretch of the season. The club has opened a four-game lead in the American League West with a skeleton roster in desperate need of some reinforcements. Yordan Alvarez’s right hand fracture has crippled an already top-heavy lineup. Isaac Paredes’ left hamstring strain Thursday night only furthered the problem. Friday brought a “pretty good sprain” of Melton’s ankle, forcing the Astros further into the most vulnerable piece of their organization. Position-player depth is almost nonexistent, part of why Houston signed a slew of veterans to minor-league deals before spring training. Two of them, Luis Guillorme and Cooper Hummel, will be summoned from Triple-A Sugar Land before Saturday’s game against the Minnesota Twins,  » Read More

Burns puts up sizzling 65 for clubhouse lead – theScore.com

by Dane Belbeck Jun 13, 6:43 PM Gregory Shamus / Getty Images Sport / Getty Apparently nobody told Sam Burns that Oakmont was supposed to be the hardest test of the year. The 28-year-old made the iconic layout look like a regular PGA TOUR stop Friday with six birdies against one bogey to post a sizzling 5-under 65. The stellar second round pushed him up the U.S. Open leaderboard and gave him the clubhouse lead at 3-under as the afternoon wave began teeing off. Burns' strong performance was the latest in a series of solid play. He fired a final-round 62 in Canada last week before falling short in a playoff against Ryan Fox. Burns showed throughout Friday's round why he's statistically the best putter on the PGA TOUR, canning all 16 of his putts inside 10 feet. He also ranked second among the morning wave in approach - a deadly combo that explains how he moved up following a 2-over opening round. Burns ranked 106th in the field in putting Thursday,  » Read More

J.J. Spaun takes clubhouse lead at US Open, McIlroy and DeChambeau struggle

J.J. Spaun seized command early in Thursday's first round of the US Open, defying Oakmont's fearsome reputation by firing a bogey-free four-under par 66 for a one-stroke lead. The 34-year-old American fired his lowest round in nine major starts and matched the lowest first round of any US Open at Oakmont, the 66 by American Andrew Landry in 2016. "I knew it was going to be tough," Spaun said. "I just tried to grind it out." Spaun started on the back nine, birdied four of his first eight holes, then parred his way to the clubhouse for only the eighth bogey-free US Open round at Oakmont, hosting for a record 10th time. "This is probably one of my better putting rounds all season," Spaun said. In second place on three under after back-to-back birdies at six and seven, was South Korean Kim Si-woo through 16 holes. World number one Scottie Scheffler was set to begin his first round only minutes after Spaun reached the clubhouse,  » Read More

A Perfect Start: J.J. Spaun Had The Round Of His Life And Made Some History To Get The …

I saw this question posed by Foreplay. No, Oakmont is not playing easy. It's playing like Oakmont where guys are getting bullied all around the course and we currently have 9 guys out of the 102 on the course under par.  It's mostly the fact that J.J. Spaun played the round of his life, including making some history  Let's not forget the other 66 to start a US Open at Oakmont was Andrew Landry. Little hint: Andrew Landry didn't win. I'm not saying Spaun is going to completely collapse, he's been playing well this year. Dude is ranked 25th in the world and has been on leaderboards all throughout the year. It also helped he was out early. Oakmont is playing easier in the morning vs as the day goes on, but this was Spaun making shots and having the best round he ever played as a pro AdvertisementIf you think Oakmont is playing easy because Spaun is -4, what about Lowry at +9? Or Rory at +4, or Rose at +7 or Cantlay at +6 or Bryson at +3?  » Read More

$400m LIV chief’s stunning $18m 269-acre golf course left to rot after being abandoned in 2018

Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler and Jon Rahm will all battle for glory as the 2025 US Open gets underway on Thursday. Two-time US Open Bryson DeChambeau, who lifted the coveted trophy last year, is also among the 156-man field at Oakmont Country Club as he looks to defend his title. 7DeChambeau is out to defend his title at Oakmont this weekendCredit: GettySituated near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Oakmont is recognised as the oldest top-ranked golf course in the United States, and it's known to provide a tough challenge with firm fairways, deep bunkers and extremely fast greens. Defending champion DeChambeau is all too aware of the conditions, and believes it's the 'toughest golf course in the world' right now, which makes you ‘question your sanity'. While players are set to make their way around the historic cathedral of the game this weekend, a different American venue has been left in a state of disrepair in recent years,  » Read More

Gunman kills 9 in a mass shooting at a school in Austria – WVIA

Published June 10, 2025 at 12:12 PM EDT BERLIN — A gunman killed nine people Tuesday morning after opening fire at a school in the southern Austrian city of Graz. Police say the shooter is also dead, in what they believe was a suicide. Police first responded to reports of gunfire at 10 a.m. local time at the Bundesoberstufenrealgymnasium Dreierschützengasse, a secondary school in the northwest of the city. They later found that the gunman had shot and killed nine people and injured 12 others. Among the dead were six female and three male victims, police said, but they did not specify the ages of the dead or how many were students or teachers. Minutes after the shooting started, police arrived and evacuated the school. In all, 300 police officers were at the scene as well as 160 paramedics. Police say they later found the suspected shooter, a 21-year-old man who was a former student at the school, dead from an apparent self-inflicted gun wound in a school restroom.  » Read More
