Zionsville mayor says anger sparked profane Facebook tirade on gun violence

Editor’s note: The following story contains profanity. Zionsville Mayor Emily Styron expressed her frustration about gun violence in the United States in a profanity-filled Facebook tirade last week following a school shooting in Texas that took the lives of 19 children. Guy Relford, an attorney and host of the WIBC 93.1 FM radio program “The Gun Guy,” posted a screenshot of her Facebook comments Tuesday afternoon on Twitter. Styron’s comments were written late last week during a conversation about gun-ownership rights involving several individuals on the Facebook page of Robert Goodman Jewelers, which had opened the thread by asking for political change and showing support for gun-free spaces. Styron responded to a Facebook user named Joel Bardach by writing, “F— you. I am so sick and tired of the stupid, useless rhetoric by jack asses like you when it comes to gun regulation. F—ing sick and tired of mass murders OUR F—ING CHILDREN… it’s time for the majority who know that gun permits and banning automatic weapons is COMMON F—ING SENSE.  » Read More

Judge: No 'speck' of proof in Palin's libel case against NYT – POLITICO

“In actuality, none of these was erroneous, let alone a basis for granting Palin a new trial,” the judge said. Rakoff wrote that regardless of her post-trial motions, Palin was required at a trial earlier this year to show that an error in a published editorial was motivated by actual malice — a requirement in libel lawsuits involving public figures. “And the striking thing about the trial here was that Palin, for all her earlier assertions, could not in the end introduce even a speck of such evidence,” he said. Lawyers for Palin declined to comment on Rakoff’s ruling. A spokesperson for the Times, Charlie Stadtlander, said in a statement, “We are pleased to see the court’s decision, and remain confident that the judge and jury decided the case fairly and correctly.” The libel lawsuit by Palin, a one-time Republican vice-presidential candidate and former governor of Alaska, centered on the newspaper’s 2017 editorial falsely linking her campaign rhetoric to a mass shooting, which Palin asserted damaged her reputation and career.  » Read More

Dear Abby: I tested her with my Facebook posts, and the results were disturbing – East Bay Times

DEAR ABBY: “Dana” has been my best friend since 1995. We did so many things together, until she had gastric bypass surgery three years ago. Mind you, Dana was never fat. She may have been overweight, but she was never morbidly obese. She never participated in any of the fun sports I did, such as mud/obstacle course runs or fun 5Ks. Her lack of participation wasn’t due to her weight; she just said it “wasn’t for her.” After Dana lost some weight from her surgery, her mindset changed. She started making repeated snide remarks to me about my weight. I have some joint issues that are genetic. She said, “Maybe your weight doesn’t help.” Eventually, we stopped doing much together. Lately she has been posting, “Does anyone want to participate?” in mud runs and 5Ks that I do — but she won’t ask me. Many people have pointed out that Dana has been copying my life for some time now. We decided to test that theory by purposely posting certain things on Facebook.  » Read More

This includes Facebook`s support for the system-wide dark mode toggle in iOS, as well as the in-app dark mode toggle that used to be available in the "Settings" menu of the Facebook app itself. What this means is that not only will Facebook no longer respect your system-wide dark mode preferences, but there's also no option to manually enable dark mode directly in the Facebook app,  » Read More
