Brown Looking to Make New Memories – Virginia Sports

By Jeff White (jwhite@virginia.edu) VirginiaSports.com CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — With the season opener against Coastal Carolina approaching, University of Virginia tailback Xavier Brown has been reminded countless times about the finest performance of his college career. In Conway, S.C., Brown rushed nine times for 171 yards last year in UVA’s 43-23 win over Coastal at sold-out Brooks Stadium. That made him the first Cavalier since Bryce Perkins in 2019 to run for at least 150 yards in a game, and Brown takes pride in that feat. But he doesn’t want to live in the past. “Last year is last year,” Brown said this week. “This is a new year to prove myself and for us to prove ourselves as a team.” At 6 p.m. Saturday, Virginia kicks off its fourth season under head coach Tony Elliott at Scott Stadium. If Brown surprised the Chanticleers with his tour de force in 2024, that won’t be the case this year. “I’m sure that’s all up on their walls and bulletin boards down there,” UVA offensive coordinator Des Kitchings said Wednesday with a smile.  » Read More

The Facebook post that revealed a government in search of a front foot – Brisbane Times

When I logged off following Queensland politics for an extended period of parental leave in January, the LNP had been relentless in their airing of claimed cost blowouts and other issues sheeted home to the former Labor government. Soon after I returned in July, the atmosphere had shifted. A series of events and parliamentary estimates had given Labor plenty to prosecute the government with. Then came the poor polling for the party in power. So it was we ended up this week with a largely manufactured scandal to try and redirect some heat Labor’s way: a years-old private Facebook post from Cairns MP Michael Healy resharing a comedy sketch from an official BBC account. The first parliamentary sitting week since before the June budget has revealed a Crisafulli government trying to find its front foot.Credit: Dan Peled “Some good one-liners,” Healy wrote of the nine-minute video in the post at the time. While much has changed in the years since the then-assistant minister shared the post in 2021,  » Read More

Italian professor urges ‘unfriend your Jewish “friends” on Facebook, even the “good” ones’

The University of Palermo in Sicily has distanced itself from remarks made by law professor Lucca Nivarra, urging social media users to “unfriend” all Jews on Facebook to protest Israel’s actions in Gaza. In a Facebook post, Nivarra urged users to “unfriend your Jewish ‘friends’ on Facebook, even the ‘good’ ones,” arguing that even Jews who criticise Israel were complicit in “covering up the horror” of what he described as a “Palestinian Holocaust.” “It’s a small, tiny thing,” he wrote, “but let’s start making them feel alone, face to face with the monstrosity to which they are complicit.” Italian newspaper Il Fatto Quotidiano quoted the University’s rector Massimo Midiri calling Professor Luca Nivarra’s remarks “culturally dangerous.”  » Read More

The woman, who identified herself as Khaly, told Now Toronto that she agreed to meet up with the man who contacted her for the iPhone 16 via popular buy and sell site, Facebook Marketplace.  Khaly says she’s been selling items on popular sites like Kijiji for years with no issues and had no suspicions.  She listed the item for $1,750 but agreed to sell the iPhone to the suspect for $50 less. Khaly says she insisted that the man meet her in her condo lobby on Aug. 13 where it was safe for the two of them due to security present. Khaly says she thought by agreeing to meet under those circumstances the man wouldn’t attempt to rob her.  When the man arrived, Khaly said she didn’t have her suspicions at first,  » Read More
