Horse Fire now over 2250 acres; calmer winds and rain possible aid today – Oil City News

Aerial view of the Horse Fire in western Wyoming June 19, 2025 (Bridger-Teton National Forest Facebook) PINEDALE, Wyo. — After a day of growth fueled by erratic winds, the Horse Fire in western Wyoming is now 2,251 acres in size and only 13% contained. A new low-pressure system to the north could, however, bring calmer winds, lower temps and some much-needed rain over the affected area today. According to the Bridger-Teton National Forest in its most recent Facebook update on the fire, growth yesterday was fueled by strong and unpredictable winds that flung out embers. Today, though, the weather could be on the side of containment efforts. The Horse Fire, which is situated in the northern half of the Wyoming Range 10 miles west of Merna, Wyoming and approximately 35 miles west of Pinedale, Wyoming, will be at the very southern extent of a new low-pressure system that will make its way across northern Wyoming today. “The result will be increasingly western wind through the daylight hours Sunday,  » Read More

Popular Wyoming Facebook Group Decimated By Algorithm Revamp | Cowboy State Daily

Lorri Young Lang spent her formative years in the small agricultural town of Ord, Nebraska. Her father was the chief of police, her mother worked for the state roads department, and she was a social busybody cheerfully employed at the Ord Drive Inn restaurant.  She was happy, rich in friendship and had every intention of staying put.  Then she met a boy from Buffalo, Wyoming.  Robbie Lang’s relatives owned the Ord Bowling Alley, and it was here during a summer sojourn that the pair fell for one another like tenpins.  A short time later, 20-year-old Lorri Young Lang was married and living in the town of Moorcroft, Wyoming, where her husband worked for the Brown Swiss Jersey Dairy.  Though in love, the transition to life in Wyoming was not easy. Her new Crook County community was small and spread apart, and with few friends to lean on, she became deeply homesick.  At last she found a crutch in a Facebook group called Nebraska Through the Lens, with a collection of wildlife and lifestyle photography that helped ease her sense of loss as she adapted to a new life.  » Read More
