On February 27th, DocGo president Anthony Capone wrote a lengthy post on LinkedIn detailing a previous “international expedition” through eastern Europe and his personal opposition to the war. As part of the post, he promised to “personally cover all travel and equipment expenses” for anyone “that is willing to volunteer but doesn’t have the financial means.” Capone emphasized that his comments on Ukraine are personal statements and “not made on behalf of DocGo,” a software-enabled medical transport company previously known as Ambulnz. Capone’s message came in response to a call-to-arms from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky earlier that day, asking foreigners to “fight side-by-side with Ukrainians against the Russian war criminals” as part of Ukraine’s new “international legion” of foreign fighters. Some of the better-known minds in tech are uniting to tackle one of computing's greater challenges. CNBC reports LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman and DeepMind co-founder Mustafa Suleyman (pictured above) have formed Inflection AI, a company that will use artificial intelligence software to help humans talk to computers. The hope, according to Suleyman, is that you'll speak to computers in ordinary language — this will "almost certainly" be possible in five years, he said. Suleyman will serve as CEO, while fellow DeepMind alumni Karén Simonyan will operate as Inflection's chief scientist. The company aims to stay relatively small to preserve the team's focus and speed. The move was a long time in coming. Hoffman and Suleyman have known each other for nearly a decade, and Suleyman backed away from DeepMind in August 2019 following both a desire to "recharge" and criticisms of his management style in previous years. He became Google's VPP for AI product management and policy in December of that year, but left this January to work with Hoffman at venture capital firm Greylock Partners. Berlin: A recent discovery by a team of astronomers found that the black hole spins on its side. The team published their findings in the journal 'Science'. Scientist Prof. Dr Svetlana Berdyugina, Professor of Astrophysics at the University of Freiburg and Director of the Leibniz Institute for Solar Physics (KIS), together with an international team of astronomers, has reliably measured for the first time a large difference between the rotation axis of the black hole and the axis of the orbit of the binary star system named MAXI J1820+070. The black hole's rotation axis is tilted by more than 40 degrees with respect to the axis of the star's orbit. "This finding challenges current theoretical models of black hole formation," Berdyugina said. "The difference of more than 40 degrees between the orbital axis and the spin of the black hole was completely unexpected. Scientists have often assumed that this difference is very small when modelling the behaviour of matter in a curved period around a black hole," Berdyugina explained. LinkedIn launched a new feature on March 1 called Career Breaks, aimed at reducing the stigma in résumé gaps by allowing users to highlight the reasons for them when they occur. The social network has said career breaks are more common among women, and the feature is also intended to capture the job seeker’s non-work skills.According to LinkedIn, recruiters want to know why potential hires have career breaks, so employers will be able to get a better understanding of the person they’re considering for a job. “We’ve found that nearly half of employers believe candidates with career breaks are an untapped talent pool,” Jennifer Shappley, LinkedIn’s VP of global talent acquisition, wrote in a post explaining the new feature.The Career Breaks feature allows LinkedIn users to add a specific reason for the résumé gap in their profile. TEL AVIV (BRAIN) — Dmitry Nechaev, the owner of Sochi, Russia-based Triton Bikes, is asking industry suppliers and customers to continue to do business with his company, which he is planning to re-establish outside of Russia. Nechaev, a frequent exhibitor at the North American Handmade Bike Show, is well-known in the U.S. custom bike community. He holds Russian and Israel passports and flew from Moscow to Israel this week. His family plans to join him in Israel this weekend. He left while he could as western countries impose sanctions in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. From pouring out Russian vodka to ending the sponsorship of Russian cycling teams, many organizations and individuals are making statements against the country.  He said he had received some "bad" messages from outside Russia, but also more supportive messages.
