LinkedIn Accused of Secretly Checking Devices for Installed Applications – Cyber Press

LinkedIn Accused of Secretly Checking Devices Security researchers have uncovered a massive covert surveillance operation reportedly run by Microsoft-owned LinkedIn. According to a new investigation named BrowserGate by the commercial user association Fairlinked e.V., LinkedIn executes hidden code on user devices to scan for installed software and browser extensions. This campaign affects a large portion of the platform’s one billion global users. Every time a user visits the website, this undocumented script secretly searches the local machine without asking for consent or notifying the user. Because LinkedIn ties this telemetry data to real names, job titles, and current employers, the scanning exposes the exact software stacks used by identified professionals. Millions of companies are reportedly impacted by this continuous, daily scanning. Privacy Breaches and Data Theft The covert scanning operation crosses several strict privacy boundaries by collecting highly sensitive personal information. Under European Union law, much of this collected data falls under prohibited categories that require explicit consent. The BrowserGate report highlights several alarming violations: The hidden code detects browser extensions related to religious beliefs, political orientations, and neurodivergent accessibility aids. LinkedIn actively tracks 509 specific job search tools, revealing to the platform exactly who is secretly looking for new

The Overly Polished LinkedIn Profile Problem: Why Authenticity Beats Optimization

LinkedIn has become one of the most valuable platforms for professional networking, job hunting, and personal branding. It’s a well-crafted profile that functions as a digital CV, portfolio, and introduction rolled into one. But as advice around LinkedIn optimization spreads and AI writing tools make profile polishing easier than ever, a new problem may be taking shape. Increasingly refined profiles are starting to look incredibly similar. Keyword-packed summaries, uniformly structured experience sections, and carefully curated headlines have become so common that many profiles now follow the same formula. While these strategies can improve visibility in recruiter searches, the pursuit of the perfect profile may be stripping away the human element that makes professionals memorable. Jason Morris, owner and CEO of Profit Engine, a specialist link-building agency that helps online businesses build authority and visibility through ethical, strategic outreach, has seen this pattern play out across the professional world. Below, Morris shares his insights on why over-optimization has become a growing concern and what professionals can do to build a LinkedIn presence that actually stands out. Why LinkedIn profiles are becoming increasingly polished Personal branding has become a professional priority, and advice on how to optimize a LinkedIn profile is everywhere.

Accidental LinkedIn ‘Support’ Emoji Sparks Recusal of Tesla Cases – Yahoo Finance

Al Landes Tue, March 31, 2026 at 11:16 AM CDT 2 min read Image: Eric Crossan photography - Duncan.Hull | Debbie Rowe Racing to catch up on Tesla news while scrolling LinkedIn? Chancellor Kathaleen McCormick just reassigned three high-stakes Elon Musk shareholder lawsuits amid accusations that she accidentally “supported” a post celebrating his legal losses. The Delaware judge denied bias claims but moved the cases anyway, creating fresh uncertainty around Tesla’s corporate governance battles. The controversy centers on McCormick’s alleged LinkedIn activity—specifically, a “support” emoji reaction to a post about Musk losing a separate investor lawsuit. Musk’s attorneys pounced on this detail, noting that among reactions to the post, only one person chose “support” over a standard “like.” That deliberate selection, they argued, revealed bias requiring her recusal from Tesla-related cases. McCormick fired back with receipts of her own, claiming the interaction was either accidental or never happened. She reported it as “suspicious activity” to LinkedIn before her account got locked and deactivated. The judge also reminded critics that she dismissed a separate lawsuit against Musk last year, hardly the behavior of a biased opponent. Yet she still reassigned the cases, citing “disproportionate media attention” threatening judicial integrity. The three

AI can’t replace these 5 skills, says LinkedIn CEO: Young workers need them now – CNBC

The future of work isn't a distant horizon — it's being built right now. Some are experimenting with AI, but most of us feel anxious, navigating rapid change with outdated playbooks. What many don't realize is that our uniquely human skills are what make us irreplaceable. And in today's volatile job market, it's something young people especially can't afford to overlook. At LinkedIn, we wanted to understand what these capabilities actually are, so we talked to neuroscientists, organizational psychologists, behavioral economists, and talent leaders. We landed on five capabilities, focusing on the core inputs that each of us can develop individually and that, in many ways, enable everything else. We call them the 5Cs. 1. Curiosity AI can generate possibilities based on patterns. Humans decide which ones matter and ask, "What if we tried something completely different?" We can harness that curiosity and the openness that comes with it to learn about AI and how it's going to transform our jobs, to understand ourselves and figure out what makes us irreplaceable, and, most importantly, to align our careers with our curiosities. The polio vaccine was invented because Jonas Salk and his colleagues wondered if dead viruses could teach the body
