LinkedIn Job Scams – Schneier on Security

Interesting article on the variety of LinkedIn job scams around the world: In India, tech jobs are used as bait because the industry employs millions of people and offers high-paying roles. In Kenya, the recruitment industry is largely unorganized, so scamsters leverage fake personal referrals. In Mexico, bad actors capitalize on the informal nature of the job economy by advertising fake formal roles that carry a promise of security. In Nigeria, scamsters often manage to get LinkedIn users to share their login credentials with the lure of paid work, preying on their desperation amid an especially acute unemployment crisis. These are scams involving fraudulent employers convincing prospective employees to send them money for various fees. There is an entirely different set of scams involving fraudulent employees getting hired for remote jobs. 2026 wish list: Ukraine 4 EU – POLITICO

POLITICO’s must-read briefing on what’s driving the day in Brussels, by Gerardo Fortuna and Nicholas Vinocur. By GERARDO FORTUNA CIAO THERE: Gerardo Fortuna with you, filing the last Brussels Playbook of the year. On a personal note, the prospect of taking on this gig hadn’t been in my wildest professional dreams 365 days ago, yet here we are! I’ll still be around next year, of course — unlike another long-standing bubble fixture (more on that below in Brussels Corner … brace for it!).  Gabriel Gavin will be rocking your inbox Thursday with the first edition of 2026. DRIVING THE DAY N-EU YEAR’S RESOLUTION: You know the drill: plans drafted, promises made. It works the same in Brussels. And bringing Ukraine into the EU — and moving quickly to make it happen — is likely to top EU officials’ list resolutions for 2026. We got hint of this in Tuesday’s “coalition of the willing” call.  Familiar script: Convened by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to follow up on Monday’s Mar-a-Lago meeting between Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump, the debrief delivered no surprises. European Council President António Costa spoke of a “determination” to achieve a “sustainable peace;” Finland’s Alexander Stubb urged the bloc to keep up the momentum; Dutch PM Dick Schoof promised work on

Not LinkedIn but Tinder: Why are youngsters in US searching for job offers on dating platforms?

If you live in a metro city, the scene is instantly familiar. Office commuters scrolling through LinkedIn during commutation to get that job offer. A former colleague announces yet another certification, and you click “congratulations,” fully aware it is less about learning and more about visibility. Networks are counted in thousands, credibility measured in followers, and ambition curated in carefully worded posts. LinkedIn, for years, has been the unquestioned theatre of professional aspiration. Now imagine this: the networking has moved elsewhere. Not to another career platform, but to Tinder. A swipe on dating platforms earlier meant a prelude to small talk, a coffee, or perhaps a quiet disappointment. Today, it can mean a referral, a mentor or even a job offer. As traditional hiring structures are creaking and succumbing under pressure, young professionals are venturing off-script. They are moving to dating apps to chase careers where romance once flowed in their nerves. This is not a Gen Z gimmick or an internet joke stretched too far. It is a deliberate adaptation to a labour market that feels saturated, impersonal, and relentlessly competitive, where standing out requires more than a polished profile and a well-timed post. The quiet migration away from

Are Hashtags Still Relevant? Here’s How to Use Them | CO- by US Chamber of Commerce

Hashtags are relevant to your marketing strategy, but they may not have the same impact as they used to. Hashtags have traditionally been a shortcut to tapping into conversations and communities across social media channels. However, algorithms change, and hashtags are no longer as prevalent or as useful as they once were. Here’s what you need to know about using hashtags in the new social media landscape. Are hashtags obsolete in today’s marketing strategies? The short answer: no. Hashtags are still relevant for your social media marketing. However, the way you use hashtags should change; most social media platforms no longer reward hashtags in the same way they used to. Originally, hashtags could be deployed to get your content in front of a wider audience. Content platforms would reward the use of hashtags by boosting your post, taking cues from your hashtags to show it to interested users. “Whether it was trending topics on X (formerly Twitter), niche communities on Instagram, or challenge tags on TikTok, hashtags could easily put your content in front of thousands of people outside your follower base,” wrote MeetEdgar, a social media scheduling tool. That dynamic has changed. Today, social media platforms may actually penalize posts
