A Real-Time Descent Into Darkness The plot centers on an in-home nurse caring for an elderly dementia patient. The patient’s erratic behavior quickly spirals from unsettling to otherworldly. What begins as the tragic decline of an aging mind reveals a far darker truth. A sinister force is seeping through the cracks of the decaying home. Shot in a single continuous take. The real-time format traps viewers inside a dark, labyrinthine house alongside pale figures and shifting shadows. By stripping away jump cuts and safety edits, the camera forces you to endure every agonizing second in real time. Atmosphere Over Acting Directed by Adam O’Brien (OM) from a script co-written with John Petrizzi and Brad Hodson, the film uses its single-take gimmick to great effect. The cinematography is genuinely impressive, using fluid camerawork and decaying set design to build a heavy, suffocating sense of dread. Unfortunately, the cast—featuring Dawn Ford, Emmanuelle Lussier Martinez, and Bill Rowat—doesn’t quite match the technical craft. The continuous performances often feel hollow and weighed down by flat delivery and passionless dialogue, which undercuts the tension. Ford’s performance was the

I always see familiar faces and enjoy the beautiful artwork on the pedestrian bridges. Several years ago, a cat named Roger befriended me in the houses behind the cemetery. I nicknamed him Chonk because he was a wee bit rotund. But he couldn’t be any friendlier and always came running when he heard my 80s workout music blasting from my bike speaker. This is rare for an outdoor cat, which are usually skittish and wary of humans. He liked to rub his face on my bike pedals and roll over to show me his fuzzy belly. He had several neighbor caretakers who made sure he was well fed and had a warm bed in the winter. Chonk wasn’t there on my recent visit, and sadly, I learned that he passed away. It’s human nature how we get so attached to our animals, even ones that aren’t ours. I took many pictures over the

Photo: SubwayTakes/YouTube With SubwayTakes, YouTube is having its breakthrough moment — a tipping point that, years from now, will mark the moment the television Establishment finally welcomed the creator economy, or at least its more polished YouTube-facilitated shows, into Hollywood as its equal. That’s certainly the story YouTube would like to tell, anyway. CEO Neal Mohan argued in a May guest column for The Hollywood Reporter that creators “deserve the same acclaim as other creative professionals.” So when SubwayTakes landed a Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Short Form Comedy, Drama or Variety Series last month, it seemed to offer an end to years of supposed snubbing. “A milestone for the entire creator community,” host Kareem Rahma called it. But the Emmy nod isn’t, in itself, a milestone. What it actually represents is much smaller: a win for YouTube’s awards campaigning, confined for now to a category that’s spent most of its existence as the Emmys’ junk drawer. It may well be a prelude to YouTube becoming a larger force in Emmys land, but there’s no guarantee

Read moreDetailsDust has begun to settle inside the Arizona Diamondbacks' organization, for now. The ongoing drama surrounding second baseman Ketel Marte, his unspecified personal matter, unexpected no-show and Restricted List stint has reached as much of a conclusion as could have been expected. Marte, alongside his agent, had a reportedly productive meeting with GM Mike Hazen and manager Torey Lovullo on Thursday. He was moved from the RL to the injured list with inflammation in his knee shortly following. This story clearly had somewhat of an effect on the rest of the team. They were blown out in back-to-back games by the Red Sox following Marte's initial absence, only just managing to salvage what was a massive series finale before heading back to Phoenix. Lovullo touched on the feelings of frustration and betrayal, and Arizona seems poised to move on from the incident and welcome Marte back. But inside the clubhouse, there may still be some confusion. Some of Marte's teammates spoke with reporters on Friday regarding this past week's events. » Read More
