A Pekin pastor is calling for less automated moderation of internet content and for organizations to back up their history after his church's YouTube channel was deleted without warning. Nathan Noyes, pastor of Gethsemane Church in Pekin, went to YouTube in June to upload recent church videos only to discover YouTube deleted Gethsemane's channel. It allegedly violated the site’s spam, deceptive practices and scam policy. Countless videos — documenting church activities and history — were lost. Noyes is advocating for more humans reviewing internet-content appeals not just so this does not happen to others but because he thinks it is better for free speech. “Free speech is how we have conversations and even debates, and find out what is the truth,” Noyes said. “If we shut down have this cancel thing where you just cancel somebody and then don’t even a reason, I really think that’s un-American, and it’s a travesty.” Courtesy of Gethsemane Church Pastor Nathan Noyes of Gethsemane Church in Pekin. Noyes received no warnings or strikes before YouTube took down the channel. Noyes reached out to YouTube in several different ways, but his appeals were repeatedly denied. “We’re flagged because of AI, and then we’re

None of them is likely. Each one exposes a tension already at work, from how regulators treat engagement mechanics to how much advertising a chatbot can actually carry. "If the EU were to ban infinite scrolling, it seems pretty clear that that would significantly curtail the amount of time people spend watching these kinds of videos," said our analyst Max Willens on a recent episode of "Behind the Numbers." Willens and two other analysts walked through three "what if" predictions on the episode. What if the EU bans infinite scroll? The European Union's preliminary finding that Meta violated the Digital Services Act puts infinite scroll, the endless feed that keeps users engaged, in regulatory crosshairs. The EU specifically cited concerns about auto-playing video, ceaseless push notifications, and infinite scroll as problematic design features. Meta faces fines of up to 6% of its global turnover for non-compliance, » Read More

This issue, we have a few notices about some highway projects just east of Helena, along with an open house to accompany them. Additionally, people should probably stay out of the water up at Hauser Lake, and I got to chat with our new fire chief about where he is on the upcoming public safety levy. In our main feature, though, the county sheriff’s office explains why it takes to social media to get people to respond to jury summonses. Read all about it below. But first, a weather preview ☀️ Thank goodness for the cool temperatures and rain that knocked down most of the smoke hovering over Helena. This week starts off a bit warmer with a Monday high lingering in the low 80s and a 30% chance of showers, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Olivia Dzomba. Keep your umbrella on deck; there are still slight chances of rain Tuesday and Wednesday, with highs in the mid-70s and overnight lows in the low 50s. » Read More

The Reds ended their 2026-27 pre-season programme in victory thanks to first-half finishes from Cody Gakpo and debutant Jeremy Jacquet. It was the second meeting between the clubs on the day, with the first ending goalless at the AXA Training Centre . Read on for Liverpoolfc.com's interview with the head coach after the game in L4. On the positives from the win... I think we need a little bit this feeling of finishing with a clean sheet, winning the game. Still, the first half has been better than the second, but at least we kept our organisation, our composure and we found a way to finish with a clean sheet, 2-0. I think we needed this feeling before we start. On whether he was impressed by the performances of Jacquet and Ronald Araujo... Yes, both of them. I think Jeremy played really well. Also Ronald played really well when he came in. When you have two new faces, first

In Quneitra Governorate, troops raided Jbata al-Khashab, backed by six military vehicles, searching a home before withdrawing. Later Saturday, troops raided al-Rafid, searching several more homes there. No arrests were reported. Sunday, Israeli forces entered Quneitra near the village of Saida al-Golan, establishing a military checkpoint to inspect people passing by. Locals were searched, but here again no detentions were reported. Israeli military vehicles along the frontier with Syria | Image from SOHR The frequency of such cross-border operations has been escalating for awhile, but has reached an almost fevered pace in August. In the past two weeks, 43 distinct ground incursions were reported by the Israeli forces into Quneitra and Daraa Governorates. Mostly, this was centered on the Yarmouk River Basin. The growing concern in this region, whose economy is heavily agriculture-based, is not just the raids and harassment, but the chemical herbicides sprayed by Israeli forces on Syrian land have done substantial damage

Alongside mainstream Classical, Romantic and 20th century repertoire the ever-adventurous clarinettist started commissioning new works by internationally acclaimed contemporary US composers, like Nico Muhly and Missy Mazoli, alongside established and rising Australian talent. Taking it a step further Omega set up The CoLAB Composer Accelerator Program six years ago, putting young homegrown talent through a nine-month intensive creative workshop in which their specially written new works were put through the wringer with eminent mentors and the ensemble’s musicians. At the end of this rigorous process the works would be heard for the first time at one of Omega’s concerts. The 2026 CoLAB composers: Robert McIntyre, Jessie Leov, Beth Roche and Thomas Misson. As Fengming Lu and Xiao Ma point out in this week’s lead article, that narrative simplifies a much more complex story. The rise of China’s globally competitive EV manufacturers owes as much to fragmentation and competition among different elements of the central government, the policies of provincial and local governments and the dynamics in global capital markets at crucial points in the industry’s development as it does to coordinated state support. Central ministries, as Lu and Ma’s tracing of the industry’s emergence details, competed over regulatory authority and preferred technologies rather than following a common blueprint. The resulting policy gaps ‘sometimes created openings for peripheral businesses such as automakers Chery and Geely, policy entrepreneurs and technical experts to influence policy’, as Lu and Ma explain. Provincial governments, formally incentivised to drive local industrialisation, also learnt to become creative with centrally determined rules around support for private firms. They found
