Local News PORT ORANGE, Fla. – A 71-year-old woman was shot on Thursday morning after firing a gun inside the lobby of the Port Orange Police Department, police announced. Roughly a day later, investigators have confirmed that she has died. WHAT HAPPENED? The incident began around 8:30 a.m. at the department’s headquarters at 4545 Clyde Morris Blvd., when the woman — identified as Linda Jean Croteau — entered the main lobby, where the department’s records section is located. Police said she fired one shot toward civilian staff before leaving the lobby, where responding officers confronted her. She was still holding the firearm when officers opened fire, Chief Manny Marino said in a news conference Thursday. “I don’t know if she saw an employee and that’s what she was aiming at. That will be part of this investigation, as well,” Marino said. Three officers were involved in the shooting. None was injured, and no civilian staff members were hurt, Marino said. UPDATED DETAILS On Friday, police issued an update, confirming that Croteau had passed away. “Our thoughts are with our officers, employees, Ms. Croteau’s family, and everyone else affected by the shooting,”
