Adam Glanzman / Bloomberg The Massachusetts Institute of Technology canceled a visiting professor’s lecture after many took to Twitter to call out his views on diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher ed.  The university cited “current distractions” in its decision to nix a John Carlson Lecture — a prestigious honor — to be given by University of Chicago professor Dorian Abbot, the Boston Herald reported. Abbot, who works in the university’s Department of Geophysical Sciences, was set to give a lecture on planets and climate hosted by MIT’s earth, atmospheric, and planetary sciences department. On Tuesday, Abbot posted about the experience, saying his lecture was canceled because of an “outrage mob on Twitter.” “My crime? The pair began predominantly interacting on Snapchat after they exchanged social media account details, and the woman later admitted to having sexual thoughts about the victim. She also sent messages through the app detailing the sexual activities she wanted to perform, like grasping his penis and rubbing her foot against his groin under a table. (WPTV) — Two teens were arrested early Thursday morning after posting a threat on social media to "shoot up" Martin County High School in southern Florida, authorities said.According to an arrest report, several students in a Snapchat group saw the post late Wednesday night. It reportedly showed a young man holding a handgun, along with the caption, " county I'm gonna shoot up the school."Those students notified their parents, who then called 911.Around 3 a.m. Thursday, deputies took two teens, ages 17 and 13, into custody. Authorities said the older teen is the one who posed with the weapon.Martin County Chief Deputy John Budensiek said the 13-year-old admitted to investigators the gun was his. When authorities went to his home, they found a loaded black Beretta 92x 9mm handgun hidden behind a dresser in his bedroom. He spent thousands of dollars a month posting videos on Instagram videos of him cutting clients hair with the latest fashionable styles.
