Diana Wyenn's BLOOD/SUGAR Available Now On-Demand

Plain Wood Productions has announced that its groundbreaking theater and film hybrid Blood/Sugar-created, directed, and performed by theater artist Diana Wyenn-is now available on-demand to the public.Historical perspectives, staggering statistics, and personal narrative collide with video effects, Shakespearean texts, and original movement to create a vivid account of the life-sustaining care that diabetes currently demands from one out of every 10 American adults. Creator Diana Wyenn, who has Type 1 diabetes, places her story and body at the center of the work, as both a carrier of the disease and a vehicle for theatrical transmission. Originally conceived in 2017 for the stage, Blood/Sugar was reworked in 2020 to be performed live from Wyenn's own home due to the COVID-19 pandemic and is now available for on-demand streaming in 2021."After more than a decade of living with diabetes, I learned that roughly 90% of cases are preventable and reversible," shares creator and director Diana Wyenn. "Immediately, I turned all my skills as a storyteller toward creating a theatrical response that dispels the lies, mystery, and shame surrounding diabetes in all its forms.""Then COVID-19 pandemic hit, and I saw people living with diabetes on the CDC's list of vulnerable communities. I knew…

Twitter reactions to Kentucky collapsing at Alabama

The Kentucky Wildcats lose yet another game, their second loss of the season to the Alabama Crimson Tide, 70-59. After a good showing against LSU on Saturday, the bad version of the Wildcats reared its ugly head again, and the Wildcats could not crack 60 points, as has been a trend all season long. Kentucky battled for most of the game, around 37 minutes or so, before another total collapse in the final minutes for the second straight week. It’s apparent that Kentucky has no real closer on the team and has no way to close any team out In a back-and-forth scenario. Olivier Sarr was the main focal point of the offense tonight, as was Davion Mintz, before Calipari stopped going with the lineup that had kept them in the game all night long. Missed shots and costly turnovers in the final minutes ruined any hopes for a win in this game, and the season as a whole. Here is what Twitter had to say about Kentucky’s 10th loss of the season: Every offensive trip for Kentucky feels like the equivalent of converting a 3rd and long.— Chris Fisher (@ChrisFisher247) January 27, 2021 Total collapse the last 4 minutes…

Cloud9 Ziqo is back from ban on Twitch earlier than expected.

World of Warcraft streamer Mohammed "Ziqo" Beshir is back on Twitch after six days, six hours, and 35 minutes.  While his fans celebrated his return, Ziqo didn't seem so pleased about the situation. The streamer still demanded an explanation from Twitch. The streaming platform had never told him exactly why he was banned aside from a "copypasta" email that told Ziqo he'd used a hateful slur.  Ziqo noted that he didn't recall ever using harmful language and even reached out to Twitch to find out what was said. But according to a recent video, Ziqo was ignored by Twitch completely.  "I was never given any context. I was never given the clip. I was never given anything other than a vague reason," Ziqo ranted.  According to Ziqo, he had reached out to numerous Twitch employees, sometimes even asking for a five-minute discussion about what got him banned. While Ziqo noted that he told employees it was fine if they couldn't get him unbanned, he just wanted to make sure his side of the story was being heard.  "It felt like they were ignoring me and hoping I'd just be quiet," Ziqo recalled.  Why was Ziqo banned from Twitch?  Even though…

Did Whatsapp's new policies spark an Exodus?

The dip in users may not impact Whatsapp as significantly as one might expect. Before we dive into the depths of this quandary that is being debated with furore, I’d like to make a few disclosuress at the outset.I am an active WhatsApp userI have read, understood and accepted the recent terms & conditions prompted by WhatsappI have not migrated to Signal or Telegram or even considered downloading the sameWhile I am a part of the digital marketing industry and one can rightly assume that I would advocate data sharing, the nature of my job is such that it enables me to understand the perspective of the end-user and that of a business, as well. Thus, it helps me stay objective on the issueWe Chose ThisWhen WhatsApp was introduced to India back in 2009, there was little to no hesitation in ‘choosing’ to join the bandwagon. We were presented with a utility driven app that helped us engage in instant interactive conversation, with the ease of sharing pictures and media. The best part of it all, was that this was at no cost! With over 400 million active Indian users across demographics, Whatsapp’s seamless and convenient interface has made it the…

BloombergNYC Apartment Landlords Getting Burned in Gentrification Crash(Bloomberg) -- New York’s apartment investors are suddenly waist-deep in distress.By December, they were behind on $395 million of debt backed by mortgage bonds, almost 150 times the level a year earlier, according to Trepp data on commercial mortgage-backed securities. Tenants in rent-stabilized units owe at least $1 billion in rent and wealthier ones are fleeing the city, leaving behind vacancies and pushing newly-built luxury towers into foreclosure. For years, as crime dwindled and rent climbed in New York, investors gobbled up apartment buildings. But with the city’s economy and culture crushed by Covid-19, mounting job losses have derailed the gentrification boom and put financial pressure on landlords.“The people who specialize in mortgage workouts are the busiest people in New York real estate,” said Barry Hersh, a clinical associate professor of real estate at New York University. The developers who are in the most trouble pushed hard into Harlem and the Brooklyn hipster hubs of Crown Heights, Flatbush and Bushwick, squeezing out working-class residents by building new expensive units. Now, they’re grappling with eviction bans and new tenant protections as rent falls across New York.Colony 1209, a steel-gray apartment building, opened six years ago in…
