James Northcott and pal Fin Devine set up the channel FinandJamesTV in the summer as a result of the pandemic. Their idea was to ‘have fun’ and bring happiness to others during a year when major restrictions have affected peoples’ lives. In their latest stunt the pair, who have been best friends for 15 years, visited the new Starbucks Drive thru on the Bath Road. During numerous circuits of the drive thru they offered to pay for customers’ drinks in the car behind them - but only if the barista could answer a trivia question. “We ended up paying for around 10 customers orders after going around the drive thru multiple times,” said James. Banning Trump won't make Twitter safe for democracy

opinionBrian Ott and Greg Dickinson  |  Savannah Morning NewsThis is an op-ed by Brian L. Ott, a professor and head of the Department of Communication at Missouri State University, and Greg Dickinson, a professor and dean of the Department of Communication Studies at Colorado State University.Twitter's decision to permanently ban President Donald Trump from its platform is, on first blush, somewhat surprising. After all, for more than four years, Twitter has twisted itself into pretzels trying to justify why it was not banning him for clear violations of its policies (against hate and incitement to violence). It even invented a whole new set of rules about world leaders to justify its tortured decision not to ban Trump. So, historically, Twitter has been reluctant to hold Trump responsible for his speech, likely because he was their most notorious user. Simply put, Trump was good for business. After the violent insurrection at our nation’s Capitol last Wednesday, which was clearly incited by Trump, he was no longer good for business. Under growing public pressure, Twitter, like Facebook the day before, closed Trump’s infamous account and issued this statement to justify its decision: “After close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and…

Letter, 1/17: Facebook, Google suit a mistake

Letter, 1/17: Facebook, Google suit a mistake As a small business owner who has survived the economic disruption of the pandemic with the assistance of free access to online services, I cannot think of a worse time for Attorney General Doug Peterson to attack technology companies. Doing so wastes taxpayer money and threatens the digital safety net that has been vital to the survival of small business during this unprecedented pandemic. There are many reasons to be concerned about the information collected by technology companies, which Peterson cites as the main motivation for his lawsuit. But attacking Google or forcing the breakup of one of the most successful American companies will not address that issue. What is conveniently overlooked is the level of innovation and free cost that has made Google the go-to choice for many businesses in a crowded field of competitors. It is easy to assume “big is bad” and throw stones at the most successful companies. However, small businesses who rely on free, reliable and efficient tech services to make their bottom line will pay the ultimate price for these lawsuits, at a time when they can least afford it. Facebook Tracks Maximum Data, And Pornhub Asks For Least Private Data: Report

While internet surfers are aware of the concept of targeted advertisement, not many know the extent to which brands collect the data of online visitors.  ReutersA new report now attempts to do that and as per its findings, Facebook unsurprisingly ranks as the top data garner in the world. As per the data shared by a Clario report, Facebook procures 70.59% of all the data a business can legally collect about you. Facebook-owned Instagram comes next, collecting 58.82% of all available data. As per the report, this data includes regular data like name, location, email address and date of birth, as well as other information like “your hobbies, height, weight and sexual orientation.” Being a social media network, Facebook asks for this information for recommending friends to you, marking events, suggesting groups and pages to follow and of course, for directing advertisements to you. Facebook Tracks Most Of Your Data; Pornhub Asks For Least Private Data: ReportAdvertisements are the main source of revenue for Facebook, which clocked around $16.6 billion from sales revenue in 2018. As social media platforms continue to collect more data than others, this revenue is only expected to skyrocket in the coming years. The practice, however,…

15-year-old could face NASCAR penalties after posting video of himself driving at Daytona to …

Don’t film yourself during a Daytona test session. And don’t post that video to social media. That’s the lessons that 15-year-old Taylor Gray has undoubtedly learned after he posted a video of himself driving during an ARCA Series test session at Daytona to Snapchat on Friday. Here’s the video. Gray doesn’t appear to be around any other cars while he’s on the track. As you can imagine, it’s against NASCAR rules to film yourself with your phone while driving during a test, practice or race (NASCAR owns the ARCA Series). In fact, it’s against NASCAR rules to have a phone or any type of device that can record in your car at all.Drivers have been penalized for that rule infraction before, so it’s very possible that NASCAR will sanction Gray — especially since he posted it to social media. While driving with no one else around you at Daytona isn’t the most challenging thing in racing — drivers don’t typically have to lift off the gas or work very hard to steer their cars — it’s still a terrible idea to use your phone while going over 170 MPH.Gray made his first ARCA starts in 2020 after he turned 15 in March. He…
