Trump has faced major backlash from social media platforms after his supporters attacked Capitol Building on January 6. Facebook, Twitter and Facebook have already taken action against Trump. Snapchat opeartors felt that Trump may use the platform to cause more unrest.  "Last week we announced an indefinite suspension of president Trump's Snapchat account," Snapchat said in response to an AFP inquiry. "In the interest of public safety, and based on his attempts to spread misinformation, hate speech, and incite violence, which are clear violations of our guidelines, we have made the decision to permanently terminate his account." In addition to action from social media platforms, tech giants have already moved to ban other apps that Trump or his supporters may use to communicate. Twitch's CMO: 'As Long As It's Done Right, Our Audience Is Ready To Engage With Brands'

Twitch is mainly known as a streaming platform for gamers. But what’s a gamer, actually? “The truth is, close to 80% of Americans over the age of 13 self-identify as gamers, and so the term starts to lose some of its meaning,” said Twitch CMO Doug Scott. “People who are into games aren’t solely into games, they have multiple interests.” Over the past three years, the amount of non-gaming content on Twitch has quadrupled, including everything from cooking, sports and music to fashion, politics and streams for inducing autonomous sensory meridian response or ASMR. “This type of content started cropping up organically, and it’s something we’ve encouraged,” said Scott, who joined Twitch in Oct. 2019 after more than three years as CMO of Zynga. Two of Scott’s favorite Twitch streamers are the gamer DrLupo and CA in LA, a music channel run by two female musicians and filmmakers who are also best friends. “Twitch has a lot of power in our core community, but we also see a ton of growth ahead,” Scott said. “Our job is to keep on growing while making sure not to screw up the core brand.” Scott spoke with AdExchanger. YouTube Suspends Trump's Account; Google Pauses Political Ads (Again)

by AdExchanger // Thursday, January 14th, 2021 – 12:03 am Here’s today’s AdExchanger.com news round-up… Want it by email? Sign up here. Canceling The Don The bans and account suspensions just keep on coming for President Trump. On Tuesday, YouTube said that it has suspended his channel for at least a week, The New York Times reports. YouTube, which has typically been fairly slow to crack down on problematic content, cited concern over “ongoing potential for violence” in the wake of the riot at the US Capitol last week. Trump is already permanently banned on Twitter and banned on Facebook at least until President-elect Biden’s inauguration. In a tweet (oh, the irony!), YouTube’s official Twitter account said that YouTube is also disabling all comments on Trump’s channel indefinitely. The seven-day suspension from YouTube is an “important and necessary first step” that should become permanent, said Jim Steyer, chief executive of Common Sense Media, a nonprofit news media watchdog group. “While it is disappointing that it took a Trump-incited attack on our Capitol to get here, it appears that all the major platforms are finally beginning to step up,” Steyer said. Hitting Pause (Again) Sticking with the “You’re fired” theme, Google took…

First Amendment attorney says Trump's Twitter deactivation is not a violation

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - In this time of politics becoming more and more involved in social media, some are claiming that sites have overreached and violated first amendment rights. After a riot on Capitol Hill, Twitter, and several other social media platforms, banned President Trump. We spoke with first amendment attorney Leita Walker who said that Twitter or any other social media app that has so far taken down, removed, or deactivated Trump’s account has not violated the first amendment. Why?Because for it to be a violation, Walker says it has to come from the government. Since Twitter and Facebook are not government bodies or entities, they are not in violation of the first amendment or censorship. When it comes to the riots at the Capitol, some have questioned that politicians should be held responsible for inciting those actions. Walker says an inciting of a riot case is rare and very difficult to prove.Copyright 2021 WVLT. All rights reserved.

'I believe this was the right decision': Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey speaks out on Trump ban

Trump says remarks to supporters at rally before Capitol attack were appropriate Speaking to reporters before traveling to Texas on Tuesday, President Donald Trump said his remarks to supporters at a rally prior to the violent siege on the US Capitol were totally appropriate. SAN FRANCISCO - Nearly a week after banning President Donald Trump’s personal Twitter account, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey broke his silence with a series of Tweets explaining the company’s decision to go forward with the suspension.  On Jan. 8., Twitter announced that it had permanently removed Trump’s personal Twitter account after a review, citing "the risk of further incitement of violence." The move came days after the deadly attack on the U.S. Capitol by a mob of Trump supporters who attempted to halt Congress’ certification of President-elect Joe Biden’s 2020 election victory. On Wednesday, Dorsey wrote that he was not celebrating the ban of Trump, but rather felt the move was necessary to respond to "threats to physical safety both on and off Twitter."  "I believe this was the right decision for Twitter," Dorsey wrote. "We faced an extraordinary and untenable circumstance, forcing us to focus all of our actions on public safety. Offline harm as…

Twitch streamer mistakes NPCs for Rust players more than once, and it's hilarious

Rust Published: 14/Jan/2021 2:25 Updated: 14/Jan/2021 2:51 by Alan Bernal Facepunch Studios / Gingerbeardie Twitch Rust can have a steep learning curve for first-time players as Twitch streamer ‘GingerBeardie’ found out trying to befriend, then later getting shot at, by NPCs he mistook for actual players. Facepunch Studios’ Rust is a multiplayer survival game. Depending on the server you’re on the rules can change, but in general, linking up with allies and creating fortresses to safely create and store equipment and weapons is at the core of the game. But getting to that point means starting from the bottom and working your way to the top, and that takes exploration and branching out to new parts of the map to reap and kind of reward. In that respect, GingerBeardie was doing exactly what he was supposed to be doing, but might have jumped the gun when trying to meet the locals. But Twitch audiences were beside themselves when Beardie came across an NPC and tried to befriend the character, only to be met with nothing by silence. “Hey man… Hello?” Beardie attempted, before his Twitch chat played spoiler to his attempt at socializing with the machine. “What is that? That’s…

Georgia political, business leaders vow to focus on freight, broadband

David Pendered January 13, 2021 8:53 pm By David Pendered Georgia’s political and business leadership on Wednesday named freight mobility and rural broadband as top priorities for improvement during remarks at the annual Eggs & Issues breakfast, hosted virtually this year by the Georgia Chamber of Commerce. The colors mark broadband service availability. Orange areas have service, beige areas don’t have service, the blue area shows were an area has asked the state Department of Community Affairs to alter the designation. Credit: broadband.georgia.gov The nuance in the comments is the focus on the movement of freight and databased logistics management that requires broadband, and the jobs associated with them. These sectors offer the potential to create jobs that would pay living wages in rural Georgia. The efforts occur amid a federal review of freight movement nationwide. Previous mobility efforts have focused on expanding the capacity of highways to transport vehicles of all types. Results have included the formation of the ATL, the entity that’s to help get commuters off roadways by enhancing transit in metro Atlanta, truck-only interstate lanes, and a $900 billion funding package to help offset declining federal road funding. The extension of broadband into rural areas had…

Snapchat To Terminate Trump's Account On Inauguration Day

Snapchat will terminate Trump's Snapchat account "interest of public safety." Donald Trump is running out of social media platforms to turn to. Last week's insurrection on Capitol Hill, which left five people dead, has gotten the president impeached. Twitter removed him before other tech giants followed with the latest being Snapchat. A rep for Snap confirmed that they will be permanently banning Trump from the platform in the "interest of public safety."David Becker/Getty ImagesTrump's now no longer allowed to use Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, as well, and YouTube recently revealed that they'd be suspending his page for a week for a video that they said is in violation of its policies prohibiting the encouragement of violence. This all stems from the riot as well as his poor handling of the situation.“Last week we announced an indefinite suspension of President Trump’s Snapchat account, and have been assessing what long-term action is in the best interest of our Snapchat community,” a Snapchat rep said in a statement to Variety. “In the interest of public safety, and based on his attempts to spread misinformation, hate speech, and incite violence, which are clear violations of our guidelines, we have made the decision to permanently terminate his…
