Snapchat Brings Some StreetCred to Its Snap Map Feature

The existing StreetCred platform will be shuttered StreetCred By David Cohen 6 hours ago Snap Inc. is putting some muscle behind Snapchat’s Snap Map feature with its acquisition of New York-based startup StreetCred, which had been working on a location data platform.Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The existing StreetCred platform will be shuttered, and four members of its team will join Snap, including co-founders Randy Meech and Diana Shkolnikov.Prior to StreetCred, Meech and Shkolnikov were with Mapzen, Samsung’s now-defunct open mapping subsidiary, as CEO and engineering director, respectively. Meech was also senior vice president for local and mapping at AOL.Snap said its new additions from StreetCred will work on emerging product areas around Snap Map, the personalized location-based feature it introduced in June 2017 as a way to let Snapchatters see where their friends are on a map (opt-in required), along with publicly submitted Snaps from the map area and Places, added last June to highlight local businesses. They will also work on augmented reality location experiences, including local lenses, and other early-stage areas of map development.

Experts say Trump's Twitter ban could affect political polarization

MADISON (WKOW) -- President Donald Trump is the first prominent U.S. politician to face a lifetime suspension from Twitter. Politics and communication experts say the ban sends a message. "President Trump has violated Twitter's terms of service, Facebook's, YouTube's, for five years now," UW-Madison journalism professor Mike Wagner said. "They're finally enforcing their terms of service on the president in the way that they enforce it on others, and it's important to show that the president is not above those terms of service from social media platforms." Twitter said it banned Trump because his tweets posed a risk of inciting violence following the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol Wednesday. "They see President Trump is not only a source of misinformation on Twitter, but also having helped instigate the violence that we saw in the U.S. Capitol," political expert David Canon said. "That's what finally pushed Twitter over the edge and said, 'okay, we just can't do this anymore. This is actually really harming our democracy and undermining our ability to function as a democracy.'" Even without access to the platform he frequently used to directly address his supporters, journalists and other members of the federal government, Trump will have access…

IPOH: M. Sugu (pic) has pleaded guilty to a charge of possessing a sickle at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun in July last year. Sugu – one half of the “Sugu Pavithra” Youtube cooking channel along with his 28-year-old wife S. Sugu was charged with assaulting Pavithra with a mobile phone and a sickle at the parking lot of the hospital on July 21 last year. He has since been given a discharge not amounting to an acquittal by the Sessions Court here over the assault charge. Now-famous Rizman Ruzaini shoulder-baring gown previously worn by YouTube cooking …

Model Natasha Hudson (left) and YouTube cooking sensation S. Pavithra in the much-discussed Rizman Ruzaini creation. — Picture via Instagram/Natasha Hudson, Pepatung PETALING JAYA, Jan 11 — Malaysian designer duo Rizman Ruzaini revealed that the white shoulder-baring gown that made headlines last week was previously worn by the YouTube cooking personality S. Pavithra. The one half of the YouTube channel Sugu Pavithra was spotted in the dress for a photoshoot with fashion magazine Pepatung during last year’s movement control order (MCO). In an Instagram post yesterday, Rizman Ruzaini said the magazine also brought a stylist to the photoshoot, adding that Pavithra found the outfit to be too exposed. “Unfortunately, this dress was a bit too revealing for Pavithra (a bared one shoulder drape sleeve using thin see-through tulle fabric) which does not conform with Pavithra’s personal liking. “She later personally requested that her shoulder be covered up properly,” the post read. While the post didn’t mention names, the designers appeared to be referring to last week’s kerfuffle involving the Malay-Australian model Natasha Hudson who was lambasted for wearing the dress at a Crystal C White product launch. Many, including the dress’s designers said it was inappropriate for a hijabi to…
