Vimeo raises $150M, while IAC is 'contemplating' a spin-off

Vimeo has raised $150 million in new equity funding, announced in conjunction with the third quarter earnings of its parent company IAC. In a letter to shareholders, IAC CEO Joey Levin said the company has “begun contemplating spinning Vimeo off to our shareholders.” “Given Vimeo’s success, and investor adulation for the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) category generally, we expect Vimeo’s access to capital inside of IAC will be much more expensive than access to capital outside of IAC, and that capital will be helpful to enable Vimeo to achieve its highest ambitions,” Levin continued, adding, “We just tested Vimeo’s ability to access capital with a small private fundraise to bolster Vimeo’s balance sheet and to repay capital to IAC.” Over the summer, Match Group (which owns a variety of dating services, including Tinder) completed its separation from IAC, with IAC’s ownership distributed to IAC shareholders. Vimeo, meanwhile, has shifted its focus over the past couple years — instead of trying to compete with YouTube as a consumer video destination, it sells video tools to enterprises and other businesses. For example, it recently launched a free video messaging product called Vimeo Record. The company says it has 1.5 million paying subscribers and more than 3,500 enterprise clients, including Amazon, Starbucks, Deloitte, Zendesk, Rite Aid and Siemens. The new funding comes from Thrive Capital and GIC. According to the earnings report, in Q3, Vimeo grew revenue by 44% year-over-year, to $75.1 million. And it had its first quarter of positive EBITDA — $3.4 million. “Our goal is to radically simplify how businesses create and share video, with tools that are far more intuitive and cost-effective than they’ve been historically,” said Vimeo CEO Anjali Sud in a statement. “We’re energized to access additional capital to pursue this enormous opportunity with the full focus and scale of…

How LinkedIn Became Synonymous With Social Selling

For most salespeople, it’s difficult to imagine life without LinkedIn. Networking, sending Inmails and sharing content to attract buyers have become as integral to the modern sales process as email and cold calling. Yet it wasn’t that long ago that selling on LinkedIn was met with skepticism. Ralf VonSosen still remembers the curious glances he received for running a LinkedIn booth at a London Salesforce conference just eight years ago. At the time, VonSosen was working as the head of marketing for LinkedIn’s new Sales Solution team. Social selling had yet to fully catch on in sales, and LinkedIn had positioned itself as a place for resumes — not sales pitches.“People would come up to me and they’re like, ‘Why are you here? Are you recruiting salespeople?’ That was the mindset,” VonSosen said. In fact, VonSosen was there to introduce the idea that LinkedIn could be more than a recruitment tool; it could be used to create relationships with buyers. But doing that required a fundamental shift in how sales reps engaged with the platform. They needed to present themselves as resources to buyers, not as candidates for employers.“It was all about, How do you make your LinkedIn profile help the customer?’” said VonSosen, who now works as the CMO and SVP of sales at Rever.  The approach was grounded in social sales methodology, a framework that helped to inform LinkedIn Sales Navigator and change how salespeople engaged with the social media websiteMore on SalesAll Sales Reps Should Master Social Selling. Here’s How.Image: ShutterstockThe First Step Was Incentivizing the Right BehaviorsBefore LinkedIn set out to build a sales tool, it needed to determine what sales activity should look like on its platform. When LinkedIn launched, it didn’t take long for salespeople to take advantage of the platform. An El Paso RN's Plea to El Paso About Staying Home With Family

Lately, first responders have been pushing us to stay home to avoid anymore spikes of Covid-19 cases. One particular RN shared her personal two cents about staying home to enjoy the time with your family. The RN who is asking El Paso to stay home is Mrs. Munoz. She wanted to share her personal opinion about the struggles her friends and family are experiencing due to Covid-19 on her Snapchat story. Hopefully, she doesn't make her husband sleep in the doghouse for sharing her video. I was on Twitter and came across the video Christopher Munoz (her husband) had shared on his Twitter. Watching Mrs. Munoz, his wife and RN get emotional towards the end got me emotional. If you know someone in the medical field then you know their every day 12 hours of struggle they encounter. Hell, you will even see the physical evidence on their faces. Mrs. Munoz used Snapchat to make her plea about staying home. You can see her plea about staying home below. It is crazy to think that El Paso didn't do a good job of keeping our positive Covid-19 cases number down. There is one way we can do our part and help out El Paso's medical staff, by staying home. IN El Paso, we have all been witnessing Covid-19 spread faster than butter on toasted bread. Plus, different places of business have had to shut their doors due to an outbreak of positive cases. Staying home can save lives and help out the others who save lives for a living. Let's help our city get better and lower the numbers by staying home. I hope Mrs. Munoz an RN and the rest of El Paso's first responders stay safe and rona free.Enter your number to get our free mobile app

LinkedIn, Microsoft embracing flex-work policy for post-pandemic life

Staff | November 5, 2020 As the coronavirus pandemic drags on, LinkedIn Corp. and its parent company Microsoft Corp. are removing the asterisk around what the 21st century workplace will look like post-pandemic. Microsoft has introduced guidance for employees on its new flexible working policy in preparation for the future of work after the current crisis is over. The new policy will also apply to LinkedIn staff, with the company recently announcing its employees will continue to work remotely until at least July 2021. Read: Twitter to allow employees to work from home ‘forever’ “We have provided guidance to employees to make informed decisions around scenarios that could include changes to their work site, work location and/or work hours once offices are open without any COVID-19 restrictions,” said Kathleen Hogan, the company’s executive vice-president and chief people officer, in a press release. “Our step-by-step guidance includes considerations like office space, salary and benefits, local law, personal taxes, expenses and more.” Under the new policy, working remotely part of the time (less than 50 per cent) will be considered standard and employees’ work hours and location will now be flexible. Changes to when and where employees work will still ultimately be subject to management approval and must align with team goals. Hogan noted these guidelines aren’t a one-size-fits-all remedy, but they’ll enable employees to make informed decisions around scenarios that could impact their work site, location and hours once offices reopen without restrictions. Read: Shopify moving majority of employees to permanent remote work Microsoft joins many other employers that are making adjustments to their work-from-home policies to better meet the changing needs of their businesses. In May, Twitter Inc. announced it will allow its employees to work from home permanently and Shopify Inc. closed its offices and moved all of its employees to remote work status until 2021.

What Is Snapchat Vertical Navigation?

Snapchat continues to make investments in its platform, creating new opportunities for digital advertisers, attracting more users and competing with fellow social media giants. With Snapchat’s newest feature, vertical navigation, now in the official testing phase, the social platform is beginning to mirror – and become better equipped to compete with – fan-favorite app, TikTok. What Is Snapchat Vertical Navigation? Snapchat recently shared it is testing a new vertical swiping feature, similar to that of TikTok, for users browsing through public content shown on Snapchat’s Discover page. The update to vertical navigation allows users to easily swipe through content on the Snapchat platform in the same way users swipe through the TikTok platform, with a vertical swiping motion, rather than horizontal. “TikTok’s navigation style is vertical, and some users consider it a more natural and engaging way to view videos on a smartphone,” noted eMarketer reporter, Jasmine Enberg. The new feature is currently being tested only on public content, as opposed to private stories shared by a user’s Snapchat friend.  Snapchat has shared limited details on the new vertical navigation feature, noting the updated layout is still very much in the early testing stages and only available to select users. The social platform did, however, note the latest feature is part of Snapchat’s continued investment in expanding its content offerings to users, with a Snapchat spokesperson stating, “We’re always experimenting with new ways to bring immersive and engaging content to our mobile-first Snapchat community.” Can Snapchat’s Latest Updates Help The Social Platform Compete With TikTok? As rumors continue to swirl about the future of TikTok, competing social platforms are looking to take advantage of the potential opportunity to fill a major void among social media users should TikTok be removed. Instagram, for example, recently introduced Instagram Reels, a new video…
