My AI on Snapchat Is Both Fun and Frightening – Her Campus

My AI is Snapchat’s newest feature to the app, and I find it both amusing and horrifying. According to Snapchat support, ‘My AI’ is an experimental, friendly, chatbot. My AI is essentially aimed to be a helpful friend who you can discuss your interests, and dislikes with as well as someone you can go to for advice… these are Snapchat’s words, not mine. My AI feels straight out of a Black Mirror episode, it won’t be long before someone develops romantic feelings for My AI, much like Theodore does with an AI virtual assistant in the movie Her. Watching technology and artificial intelligence advance seems a little unreal. I have conflicting emotions about it. I find the advancement fascinating, but I am also slightly terrified. With the continuous growth of AI, I am concerned about the job market, which is currently quite bad. I am also concerned about the unemployment rate, which I fear will drop further. An MIT and Boston University report says that “AI is expected to replace as many as two million manufacturing workers by 2025.” Although My AI may seem like a fun and harmless tool, this is simply the beginning of our technological development. While

(WATE) — A juvenile has been charged after a threat was made towards the Hardin Valley prom Saturday night, according to Knox County Sheriff’s Office. KCSO was alerted about a potential threat from the Knoxville Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. They got a tip that a juvenile “distributed the threat via Snapchat and was targeting the Hardin Valley prom.” Patrol officers, along with the Juvenile Crimes Detectives, found the juvenile in question and charged the person with a threat of mass violence. The juvenile is being held at the Richard L. Bean Juvenile Detention Center. “I want to make it clear to anyone who might think these types of threats are a joke or are funny — they are not! Any threat against any of our schools, the children, or the staff will be taken seriously. I am urging parents/guardians to candidly talk with their children about the seriousness of making a threat. We cannot downplay the potential severity of these types of crimes. The safety of our children and the staff in our school system is

Analysis of Google search data reveals that online searches for ‘delete Snapchat’ exploded 488% worldwide after the social media giant introduced the My AI feature to all user accounts.   A new finding by cyber security consultants reveals that online interest in the term ‘delete Snapchat’ has skyrocketed over five times the average in the last three months. Snapchat's new AI chatbot is already raising alarms among teens and parents – CNN

CNN  —  Less than a few hours after Snapchat rolled out its My AI chatbot to all users last week, Lyndsi Lee, a mother from East Prairie, Missouri, told her 13-year-old daughter to stay away from the feature. “It’s a temporary solution until I know more about it and can set some healthy boundaries and guidelines,” said Lee, who works at a software company. She worries about how My AI presents itself to young users like her daughter on Snapchat. The feature is powered by the viral AI chatbot tool ChatGPT – and like ChatGPT, it can offer recommendations, answer questions and converse with users. But Snapchat’s version has some key differences: Users can customize the chatbot’s name, design a custom Bitmoji avatar for it, and bring it into conversations with friends. The net effect is that conversing with Snapchat’s chatbot may feel less transactional than visiting ChatGPT’s website. It also may be less clear you’re talking to a computer. “I don’t think I’m prepared to know how to teach my kid how to emotionally separate humans and machines when they essentially look the same from her point of view,” Lee said. “I just think there is a really clear

Snapchat is Being Criticized for its AI Chatbot, My AI – Analytics Insight

Snapchat is being criticized for its AI chatbot, My AI, with confusion emerging over location data Mixed reactions have received Snapchat’s introduction of its own AI chatbot, with some condemning its prominence on the social media platform. The same technology that is being included in Microsoft’s Bing search engine, OpenAI’s GPT, powers it. Only paying members can delete the My AI feature, which is permanently pinned to the top of users’ conversation streams. Online criticism has resulted from this, and there is now uncertainty around how the app uses location data. My AI, which Snapchat referred to as “an experimental, friendly chatbot,” is capable of giving advice, scheduling trips, and other activities. However, it acknowledged that the tool might not always be accurate and that its answers “may include biased, incorrect, harmful, or misleading content”. After first being presented to premium customers, My AI has now been made available to millions of people worldwide. Users may access pinning and unpinning capabilities, My AI, and other customization options by purchasing Snapchat+, which costs £3.99 per month in the UK. According to a Snap spokesman, the “vast majority” of users who had access to My AI early on had been happy with
