Slackening digital advertising and warnings of deep cost cuts will do that to a stock. But Snap's (SNAP) conundrum was merely a prelude for similar troubles at Facebook parent company Meta Platforms Inc. (META), Twitter Inc. (TWTR), Pinterest Inc. (PINS) and, to a lesser extent, Alphabet Inc.'s (GOOGL) (GOOGL) Google. Each is caught in a vice grip of inflation, a war in Ukraine and a looming recession, which combine to make for a dismal near-future for online advertising. When Snap reports its fiscal third-quarter results Thursday, analysts expect more of the same: Little good news, and a warning for other companies set to follow with their own earnings. Jay Tyrell Whiteford, 40, was sentenced to 420 years in prison followed by a lifetime of supervised release in U.S. District Court Thursday.He had previously pleaded guilty to one count of production of child pornography in June. In March of 2020, Whiteford used Snapchat to talk to at least two people under the age of 18. Pretending to be 16, Whiteford would then coerce them into sending him sexually explicit photos and videos, according to court documents. The alleged victims come forward with stories of abuse and misconduct. The popular content creator Dream was recently accused of grooming underage girls. The news immediately brought on a backlash from a large segment of his followers, causing “Dream is a freak” to briefly trend on Twitter. Dream is mostly known for streaming Minecraft content on YouTube, suddenly rising to a new level of notoriety last month after revealing his face for the first time. The news broke when a user on Twitter made a series of serious allegations, claiming to have been groomed by the streamer at some point in 2020, a remark first spotted by Dot Esports. According to the user, Dream made several advances before inviting her over to his house. The user was apparently 17 years old at the time of the incident. The posts have since been deleted from the social media platform, but another user on TikTok who identified herself only as Amanda has now made very similar accusations, alleging that she was groomed by Dream on Instagram and Snapchat starting on September 23, 2020. A Kentucky man has been charged with physically abusing a toddler and posting a video of the abuse on Snapchat. Benjamin J. Franklin, 23, faces charges of criminal abuse of a child under 12 and strangulation. Arraignment is scheduled for October 19, according to WAVE. According to Franklin’s arrest report, the 2-year-old’s mother told investigators a number of people called her at work telling her Franklin had posted a video to his Snapchat account that showed him holding the boy by the neck and then slamming him onto the bed. She took the child to Carroll County Memorial Hospital and then called the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department about the abuse. In the report, the deputy wrote that the boy had “obviously visible injuries to his face and to his neck,” WDRB said. Investigators located Franklin and arrested him. He reportedly admitted to striking the boy in the face, holding him by the neck, and throwing him onto the bed. He also admitted that he recorded the abuse. Snapchat continues to expand the potential and practical value of AR, this time via a collaboration with The International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies on a new AR CPR overview, which will help guide people through key lessons in life-saving CPR techniques. As you can see in this example, the new AR experience provides an overview of how to administer CPR, along with quiz elements and other details to help educate people on the process.
