Snapchat promises new rules to fight drug sales – NBC12

(WWBT) - Snapchat says it’s making changes to make it harder for kids to buy drugs on its platform, and it has to do with how “friends” are recommended on the app.An NBC News investigation published in October found that Snapchat was linked to the sale of fentanyl-laced pills that killed teenagers and young adults in over a dozen states. Virginia did not have any confirmed deaths in that report. When we put music in a show, it has to mean something, it has to have character. I was lucky because I married a psychotic music-file. First Languages Australia teams up with Snapchat to teach Wiradjuri to younger generations

news, local-news, When Geoff Anderson started going into classrooms in Parkes to teach the Wiradjuri language to primary school students, he realised what he'd been missing all his life. "As soon as I walked into that room I realised, I'm home," he said. "It just made me feel so good to share what it did for me ... and now it's in all schools in Parkes." Now Mr Anderson, a Wiradjuri descendant and First Languages Australia (FLA) director, is helping to take the language to even more young people with the launch of a new Wiradjuri Snapchat lens on Monday. The Wiradjuri language learning 'lens', one of four Indigenous languages featured on Snapchat as part of International Mother Language Day on February 21, uses augmented reality and machine learning to identify different objects and display their name in Wiradjuri. Young First Nations people worked with Snapchat developers on between twenty and thirty words in each language, including their phonetic pronunciation, mostly for common objects such as trees and animals. Mr Anderson said he hopes the Snapchat lens will help keep students engaged with Wiradjuri language when they reach their teen years. "You know what it's like with teenagers: if their…

Snapchat launches a real-time location sharing feature – Medical Market News

The safety feature is being rolled out as more people are returning to school campuses, traveling, going out on dates and otherwise resuming what they did before the pandemic, the company said. The feature, which is similar to Apple (AAPL)‘s Find My app, allows users to share their real-time locations with a friend for 15 minutes, one hour or up to eight hours. Snapchat partnered with It’s On Us, a nonprofit founded in 2014 to combat sexual assault on campuses, in creating the feature. Since 2017, Snapchat has allowed users to share their locations with friends on its Snap Map feature, which updates a location only when the user has the app open. The company said 250 million users utilize Snap Map each month. Last May, Snapchat said it reached 500 million monthly active users. According to a survey conducted by the company, 78% of its US app users wouldn’t hesitate to share their locations on Snap Map, and most do it as a safe way to connect to others. Like the Snap Map, the new feature will remain off by default. Snapchatters can turn on their location “in an instant,” the company said, but only with specific friends. To…
