Social media app Snapchat has introduced a new way of browsing products through its camera, with a lense that aims to make the shopping experience more personal. App users can already use the platform to try-on digital products and make click-through purchases. According to the site, its users are now engaging with its augmented reality (AR) features more than six billion times per day, with 93 percent of those using the additions for AR shopping. The increase in use has pushed the company to launch a new type of shopping lens, allowing users to easily swipe through multiple products in the app. Details on price, colour, size and similar items suggestions will be available to view, with the likes of Ulta Beauty and Mac Cosmetics already using the feature for their own products. Caché Roberts January 26, 2022 News A New Mexico teen faces murder charges after a Snapchat scheme went wrong and turned deadly. Anna Bella Dukes, 18, was arrested Monday after her involvement in the murder of former correction officer Elias Otero, 24. The Alburquerque Journal reports that Dukes set up Otero when she used Snapchat to contact his brother, Nicholas. Once she lured him into meeting in person, three armed men, including her boyfriend, waited at Alvarado Park.  Apparently, the group used the same tactics in a previous carjacking.  They robbed Nicholas of money and jewelry, then kidnapped him and brought him to his brother’s home, where they demanded Elias give them cash or they would kill his brother, Nicholas.  Though Elias came outside, he threatened to kill them. That’s when things made a turn for the worst. A man described as Duke’s boyfriend, Adrian Avila, 17, fired and fatally shot Elias.  Dukes and her boyfriend face murder, kidnapping, armed robbery, tampering with evidence, and conspiracy charges; Avila turned himself in December.  Elias Otero’s mother, Alicia, released a statement about believing in justice for her son.  “Every day we wish that we get justice and, you know, someone to pay for what…

New Mexico teen Anna Bella Dukes was arrested on Monday for her role in the murder of 24-year-old former correction officer Elias Otero last year, the Albuquerque Journal reports. Dukes was on the run for nearly a month.The 18-year-old was charged with murder, kidnapping, two counts of armed robbery, tampering with evidence, and conspiracy to commit first degree murder. According to police, Dukes met the victim’s brother over Snapchat and lured him into an in-person meeting. During that meeting, Nicolas Otero was robbed by three armed individuals, including Dukes’ boyfriend, and driven to his brother’s home.“The suspects dragged the victim from his red Lexus and demanded cash, jewelry and a gun from him,” police said in a statement, per CBS News. “They entered the Lexus and another vehicle, holding the victim at gunpoint and drove to the victim’s residence.”The kidnappers demanded a ransom from Elias Otero from outside of the house, and said they would kill his brother if he refused to cooperate. Elias threatened to shoot the individuals as he walked outside, but then Dukes’ boyfriend, Adrian Avila, fatally shot him. Curtis Schmitt Jr., 37, of Franklin, is charged with three counts of possession of child pornography. According to the criminal complaint, the Department of Justice received a tip on December 20 that child pornography was uploaded to a Dropbox account registered to Schmitt. The username for the account was “Army Medic.” Investigators found three files that appeared to be child pornography. Two of the files had names beginning with “Snapchat” followed by a series of numbers. Schmitt reportedly admitted to investigators that the email associated with the Dropbox account belonged to him. He also reportedly admitted that his Snapchat account was shut down a few weeks prior to him speaking with investigators. He did not know why it was deactivated. The complaint alleges that Schmitt admitted to having a porn addiction, but told investigators that his addiction is for adult porn.
