A New Jersey man pleaded guilty this week to interstate travel with intent to engage in a sexual act with a minor, announced Acting United States Attorney Saima Mohsin. Mohsin was joined in the announcement by James C. Harris, Acting Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations field offices in Michigan and Ohio. Jose Ricardo Gomez, 39, of Manalapan, New Jersey, pleaded guilty on November 17, 2021, to one count of interstate travel with intent to engage in a sexual act with a minor before United States Magistrate Judge Patricia Morris. Gomez will be sentenced in February 2022. According to court documents, in or about July and August 2020, Gomez used his phone and the internet to knowingly persuade, induce, entice and coerce a 13-year-old minor and a 14-year-old minor to engage in sexual activity for which he could be charged with criminal sexual conduct in the third degree under Michigan state law. Gomez communicated with the minors via Snapchat and traveled to Michigan from New Jersey. He met them at a hotel in Houghton Lake, Michigan, where he sexually abused the two minors on several occasions during that time. He provided alcohol to the victims before the abuse.…

(WJRT) - A 39-year-old man from New Jersey pleaded guilty this week to federal charges of driving to Michigan and repeatedly sexually assaulting young teenage girls in Houghton Lake.The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Jose Ricardo Gomez of Manalapan, New Jersey, provided alcohol for the 13-year-old and 14-year-old female victims at a hotel in Roscommon County. While there in August 2020, he engaged in sexual activity with the girls and took explicit photos.Investigators say Gomez also distributed several sexually explicit videos and photos of underage girls on Snapchat from May to August 2020 before the assault in Mid-Michigan.Gomez met the teenage girls from Michigan on Snapchat in July or August of 2020. He misrepresented his name, age and residence to the girls while using the social media platform to arrange a sexual encounter with the girls in Houghton Lake.At the Roscommon County hotel, he gave the girls alcohol and engaged in repeated sexual assaults. Investigators found several explicit videos on Gomez’s Snapchat profile depicting the 13-year-old victim.Investigators also found evidence that Gomez distributed videos and photos of other underage girls on Snapchat for several months in 2020. A 32-year-old man from Tiverton appeared in Exeter Magistrates Court on Wednesday, charged with 10 counts of sexting minors. Christopher James Ware, of St Peter Street, Tiverton, has been charged with 'sexual communication with a child for the purpose of obtaining sexual gratification.' Ware allegedly used various Snapchat usernames to communicate with four different girls under the age of 16. He is accused of offering money in exchange for naked photos, threatening to post selfies claiming to be the girls online unless they sent him revealing photos or photos of their genitals and of sending photos of an erect penis. Ware will appear at Exeter Crown Court on December 16 2021, he has been remanded in custody until this date. The messaging app is now offering two Snap-owned experiences -- Memories and Explore in the Layers feature. As the year comes to an end, the photo messaging app is putting Snapchats Memories on their Snap Map. With this feature, users are allowing them to revisit their favourite moments, pegged to the places where they happened. It is interesting to note that this Layer feature will only show your own Memories and you cannot see your friend's Memories on t your Snap Map.
