YouTube Shelled Out $30 Billion to Creators Over Last 3 Years – Yahoo

YouTube on Monday said it has shelled out $30 billion to creators over the last three years — a revelation that comes as the Alphabet-owned video giant has seen its sales surge during the pandemic. YouTube’s $30 billion stat also comes as other major tech companies — including Facebook, Snapchat and TikTok — have been spending big bucks to win over creators. The $30 billion from YouTube went to more than 2 million creators, the company said on Monday. That money has come from ads, which YouTube is best known for, as well as merchandising and other features it offers.YouTube has been paying creators since 2007 — a couple years after the site first launched — and takes about 45% of video ad sales, according to Bloomberg. Neal Mohan, YouTube’s chief product officer, told Bloomberg on Monday he doesn’t see that changing anytime soon.Last month, YouTube reported its Q2 revenue jumped 84% year-over-year to $7 billion. That’s neck-and-neck with Netflix’s quarterly sales, and as TheWrap previously reported, both companies are expected to bring in about $30 billion this year.YouTube’s Monday announcement likely wasn’t just a pat on the back; it could also be looked at as a signal its still the…

TikTok is Developing its Own AR Effects Creation Platform to Expand its Visual Tools

An article from TikTok continues to rapidly build on its platform and tools, as it looks to capitalize on its current opportunity, and solidify its place as a key platform within the broader social media space. The platform's latest development on this front comes in the form of its own AR effects studio, which, like Facebook and Snapchat, would enable AR creators to build their own effects for the platform, expanding its pool of creative, interactive user options. As you can see in this tweet, shared by social media expert Matt Navarra (via Sam Schmir), TikTok's new 'Effect House' is currently open to selected developers as part of initial testing of the tool. TikTok has confirmed to TechCrunch that the new platform launched earlier in the month, though it's still in its early stages, and is not open for general access as yet. But eventually, the plan would be to open its Effects House platform to all creators, like Facebook's Spark AR platform and Snapchat's Lens Studio, providing more capacity for people to build their own visual effects, utilizing TikTok's various AR functions to create whole new user experiences within the app. Which makes perfect sense. By opening up the tools to…

Paedophile caught after sending child picture via Snapchat | The Bolton News

SENTENCED: Bolton Crown Court A MAN who had been viewing indecent images of children was caught when he uploaded one of them via Snapchat. Bolton Crown Court heard how police received intelligence that the picture had been uploaded on January 31 last year and that led them to Scott Taylor's home in Railway Street, Leigh six months later. Mark Brookes, prosecuting, said that during a search a Samsung mobile phone was found. "He was asked whether he possessed indecent images of children," said Mr Brookes. "He said, 'Yes, but not really'. His explanation was that he received naked images of girls on Snapchat from unknown contacts." When the phone was analysed police found multiple indecent images of children and 'chats' with people who described themselves as schoolgirls. "In one outgoing message from the defendant, he describes a fantasy with a niece. The defendant does not have a niece," said Mr Brookes. Taylor, a 36-year-old father-of-one, pleaded guilty to three counts of downloading a total of 400 indecent images of children and one offence of possessing an indecent image of a child with intent to distribute it. Miranda Kerr Considers Ex-Husband Orlando Bloom Her “Annoying Brother” | Vanity Fair

Brothers! You can’t live with them, you can’t live without them, unless of course you’re an only child or have sisters instead, in which case how would you know what you’re missing, hm? Anyway, siblings can be challenging. And can you imagine the extra degree of difficulty if that sibling was also your ex-husband? Wait. Let me explain. Miranda Kerr, Victoria’s Secret model turned beauty guru as is their wont in life, spoke of her first husband, hot elf Orlando Bloom, and the mother of his second child, songstress Katy Perry, on the Moments With Candace Parker podcast. (The pair were married from 2010 to 2013 and share 10-year-old son Flynn. Kerr later married Snapchat cofounder Evan Spiegel.) They have a bit of a modern-family relationship. Everybody is extremely cool. Kerr is cool and Perry is cool, and Bloom is, if not cool, then at least not actively terrible, per Kerr. “We go on holidays together. We celebrate all the important milestones together,” she said of Perry. “I love her. I mean, it’d be safe to say that I love her more than Flynn’s dad.” She added of Bloom, “He’s, like, to me right now, a brother. And most of the time,…

New Jersey Resident Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison for Child Pornography and …

SAN FRANCISCO – Barry David Goldberg was sentenced today to 120 months in prison on charges of distribution of child pornography and cyberstalking in a “sextortion” scheme targeting a minor victim, announced Acting United States Attorney Stephanie M. Hinds and Federal Bureau of Investigation Special Agent in Charge Craig D. Fair.  The sentence was handed down by the Honorable Charles R. Breyer, U.S. District Judge. Goldberg, 57, a resident of Cherry Hill, New Jersey, pleaded guilty to the charges on January 27, 2021.  According to the plea agreement, Goldberg admitted he used the internet to misrepresent himself as a minor to a 15-year-old.  Goldberg manipulated his victim into sending him images and videos of her engaging in sexually explicit activities.  Goldberg acknowledged that he knew at the time the victim was a minor. Goldberg also admitted that once he was in possession of the images and videos, he threatened to post on social media sexually explicit depictions of the minor female victim and to show the materials to her friends and family.  Goldberg eventually did post images of the victim on Snapchat and communicated with the minor victim's parents about the sexually explicit photos and videos he had of the…

Violent NYC 'Chico Gang' taken down by cops, DA – New York Post

More than a dozen members of a violent East Harlem street gang were indicted Wednesday in a massive takedown in a joint investigation by police and prosecutors. The “Chico Gang,” which authorities said had terrorized two public housing projects since 2018, was hit with wide-ranging conspiracy indictments charging 13 members with shooting a dozen people — including four innocent bystanders, among them a 12-year-old boy. The alleged gangbangers were charged with conspiracy, attempted murder, attempted assault and weapons possession, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office said in a press release. Three of the reputed gang members were arraigned in Manhattan court on Wednesday, while the others were already in custody. “The arrests of these gang members were specifically targeted to remove the drivers of this gang violence from our streets,” NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea said in a statement. “The Chico gang has carried on senseless rivalries targeting other gangs with innocent members of the community — including children — being caught in the crossfire,” Shea said. “It has to stop.” According to the indictments, the gang operated out of Wagner Houses public housing complex, with the violence aimed largely at a rival gang at nearby Jefferson Houses. Prosecutors said the gang…
