Only a few of the hundreds of reports will be used in this weekly column because of space limitations. March 6 1:30 p.m.: A caller reported getting hit by a large snowball while driving near the intersection of 8th Avenue and 17th Street. 4:15 p.m.: A caller reported a tow truck driver threatened to beat the caller up after they got into an argument. March 7 10:15 a.m.: A caller reported a customer was trying to open an account with a fake ID and a fake social security card. 9:30 p.m.: A caller reported he loaned someone $50 and he still hadn’t been paid back even though he was supposed to get his money back by March 6. March 8 8 a.m.: A caller suspected their ex-partner hacked into the caller’s email account and took all their password information. 9:20 a.m.: A caller reported someone broke into their car but didn’t take anything. 12 p.m.: A caller reported a driver crashed into a retaining wall on their property. The driver left behind their license plate and other car parts. March 9 11:30

March 19, 2026, 12:32 p.m. ET A former Jefferson Schools coach is facing a misdemeanor charge following an allegation of inappropriate Snapchat messages to a high school student. Kevin Carter, 36, was charged with telecommunications services-malicious use Feb. 9. His bond was set at $500. Carter declined to comment when contacted by the Monroe News.'

(Photo provided by the Utica City School District) UTICA, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) — Donovan Middle School in Utica is under heightened security for the rest of the week due to an alleged social media threat aimed at students at the school. Utica Police were made aware of the threat — along with the Utica City School District — on Tuesday, March 17. The threat was made via a Snapchat video and threatened people at the middle school. Both investigating entities were able to identify people involved in the threatening video and others who might have had information regarding the threat. Further investigation by both entities found that the threat originated due to an earlier altercation between two groups in the community. Interviews with involved parties and their caregivers found that the threat to the school was not valid, and the video was aimed at members of the opposing group in the altercation. Additional outreach has been conducted by SNUG through ICAN and Rebuilding the Village in Utica for de-escalation work and to avoid any further issues. Additional security measures will be placed at Donovan Middle School for the remainder of the week to ensure the safety of the students and staff

Officials say they immediately began working together to identify those involved and determine whether there was any danger to students or staff. Investigators say the situation appears to have grown out of an earlier altercation between two groups in the community. Police have since identified individuals connected to both groups and conducted interviews with them and their caregivers, according to UPD Lt. Mike Curley. READ MORE: Beware: This CNY Favorite Candy Has Been Recalled So far, those interviewed have told investigators the video was not meant as a legitimate threat against the school. Instead, police say it was directed at members of the opposing group involved in the earlier dispute. Even so, authorities are continuing to dig into exactly what was said and whether any laws were broken. Police say criminal charges are still possible depending on what the investigation turns up. At the same time, outreach efforts are underway to keep things from escalating. Community groups, including SNUG and Rebuilding the Village, have been brought in to work

Suit joins hundreds of other school districts nationwide who allege social media has harmed their students OLD FORGE, Pa. — A school district in Lackawanna County late last week joined the hundreds of schools nationwide suing many of the major social media platforms, accusing them of addicting children to their screens and wrecking their mental health in the pursuit of profit. The Old Forge School District's lawsuit, filed Friday in federal court, says the district of roughly 1,000 students needs "immediate funding" to deal with record rates of depression, anxiety and suicidal ideation they claim are byproducts of Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube and TikTok. The district cited a 2023 Pennsylvania Youth Survey that found that roughly one-in-five of the district's sixth-graders and eighth-graders admitted they cut themselves. Some who engaged in self-harm also reported they were victims of cyberbullying. Cyberbullying was reported by more than half of the district students surveyed. Other students from Old Forge admitted in the survey to acting out in school by threatening or harming peers or staff because of a social media meme or a "challenge" that appeared on their feeds.
