MOORHEAD, Minn. (Valley News Live) - A Moorhead man faces a first-degree criminal sexual conduct charge after authorities say he sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl at a Moorhead residence earlier this month. Monte Alexander Diedrick, 22, was charged April 13 in Clay County District Court with one felony count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct. The charge carries a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison and a $40,000 fine. Monte Alexander Diedrick (KVLY) What Happened According to a criminal complaint filed in Clay County District Court, the alleged assault occurred in the early morning hours of April 5, 2026, at a residence on 4th Avenue South in Moorhead. Court documents say Diedrick met the victim, a 13-year-old girl, and two other individuals at the residence around midnight. Prosecutors allege Diedrick brought alcohol and later sexually assaulted the victim. A witness reported the incident to a school resource officer on April 8. GENESEE COUNTY, Mich. (WNEM) - Montrose Community Schools are encouraging families to talk to students about online safety while police investigate a threat made over social media. In a letter to families, Shawn Birchmeier, the principal at the Kuehn Haven Middle School said a potential threat was reported to their office Monday. Birchmeier said the school and Montrose Police immediately began an investigation, where the threat was determined to not be credible, but police are still involved in the situation. Over the weekend, Birchmeier said a 4th grade student created a Snapchat profile using a false age, and was contacted by an unknown person who tried to form a relationship with them. The student briefly shared her located before removing it, and the person she had been in contact with then made inappropriate sexual requests. Birchmeier said when the student became upset, and the person responded by threatening her. Birchmeier said the situation is an example of the important of conversations about online safety, adding families should monitor their child’s online presence and activity. (WATE) — A University of Tennessee freshman is suing a foreign tech company for allegedly using a TikTok video she posted from her high school graduation party to promote its dating app. Kaeyln Lunglhofer is suing Quantum Communications. The company based in the British Virgin Islands, along with its Chinese affiliates, operate an online social media and messaging application called “Meete.” The lawsuit alleges it ran suggestive ads using stolen TikTok videos, and she only found out about it because a classmate told her he saw the ad on Snapchat. “I get sent a video where they’re making me look like a prostitute, and that was horrible,” Lunglhofer said. “I felt so embarrassed and mortified.” Lunglhofer is a nursing student who started using TikTok to go live with her friend on the platform.
