US court rules Meta, other tech firms must face thousands of lawsuits over social media addiction

WASHINGTON — A U.S. appeals court on Monday allowed thousands of lawsuits to move forward against Meta Platforms, Alphabet's Google, ByteDance's TikTok and Snap Inc's Snapchat over claims they designed their products to be addictive to young users. The San Francisco-based 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals rejected an appeal by Meta and TikTok seeking to overturn a lower court ruling requiring them to face more than 3,000 lawsuits filed in federal court, saying the companies had appealed too ‌early. The companies had argued that Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act of 1996 — which generally shields online companies from claims over content posted by their users — also bars lawsuits claiming they failed to warn the public about the addictive nature of their platforms. Most appeals come after a case has concluded with a ruling or a verdict. The companies contended that they should not have to wait until the litigation ends to challenge the lower court's rejection of their immunity defense. But the 9th Circuit said Section ‌230 provides a defense to liability, not ‌immunity from lawsuits, so the appeal was premature. Meta loses bid to delay intrastate trial The court also denied Meta's bid to postpone

Why Snapchat and Gmail Recovery Is Harder Than Photos on iPhone

An iPhone photo is easy to restore, but Snapchat or Gmail data drops your odds sharply. The same device and deletion produce wildly different outcomes. Nonetheless, recovery success depends on data storage and ownership, not item importance. So, review this guide and learn how Dr.Fone iPhone data recovery software is the better recovery choice than standard options.  Part 1. Why Deleted Photos Are Easier to Recover Photos get a safety net that most other data doesn’t. Deleting one moves it into Recently Deleted, where it sits for around 30 days before going anywhere permanent. Even after permanent deletion, a photo remains a distinct, self-contained file with a structural footprint that iPhone recovery software can detect in phone storage.  Ownership works in your favor because photos stay strictly on your device. Old backups hold full files, so recovery stays simple and reliable. Part 2. Why Snapchat or Gmail Data Is Harder to Recover Unlike photos, Snapchat and Gmail rely on remote cloud sync and database entries. This remote structure makes deleted chats and emails much harder to restore. Before you rely on an iPhone recovery program , review the given table to know why recovery is harder on these apps:  Recovery

EPD: Teen says she was raped by man she met on Snapchat – WFIE

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - A 19-year-old man is facing charges of rape and sexual misconduct with a minor. Police said they arrested Daniel Hall after an investigation Friday. DANIEL LEE HALL (Vanderburgh County Jail) According to the Evansville Police Department, investigators responded to a report of a minor being raped. The victim told police the assault happened at an abandoned home, and that she went to get help. Investigators said the victim told them she met Hall on Snapchat, and they had only met in person once before the alleged assault. The victim also told police that Hall lied about his age and claimed to be 17. EPD investigators said the victim received a sexual assault examination at a hospital, and her phone was collected as evidence. After Hall was taken into custody, police obtained a DNA sample from him. After police read Hall his rights, they said he requested an attorney, so investigators did not question him. Hall was booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail. Copyright 2026 WFIE. All rights reserved.
