Cuz I love you

Andrew Nakamura/Daily. For as long as I can remember, I have always been fat. For me, self-love could never be a matter of “you’re not fat” or “it’s all in your head” because through my daily interactions with other people, I’m often reminded that others see me as fat even when they mean well and especially when they don’t. As such, I had no choice but to confront fatness itself and accept myself as I was. However, loving my body was much easier said than done, because fatphobia is so ingrained in society that unconscious bias is accepted as reasonable and almost never challenged. When I was a young teenager, I sunk many hours into scrolling through Tumblr and my Instagram explore page (that exclusively consisted of reposts from Tumblr) in order to find some sort of inspiration to love myself. While I waded through a flood of posts, I saw countless variations of “you have to love yourself before you can love someone else.” At the time, I didn’t think critically about these statements. They promoted self-love, which I recognized as a good thing even if I didn’t really know what that was supposed to mean to me personally.…

Man sentenced for possessing child pornography

Brian Wayne Hillyard | Bonneville County Jail IDAHO FALLS — An Idaho Falls man will spend up to a year on a rider program for possessing child pornography. Brian Wayne Hillyard, 63, pleaded guilty to two felony counts of possession of child pornography in March before District Judge Bruce Pickett sentenced Hillyard Wednesday. Hillyard received an underlying two to eight year prison sentence that could be served if Hillyard does not successfully complete the rider. A rider is when a judge sends a person to prison for up to a year to undergo different treatment programs. When the inmate has completed the program, the judge can then decide to send them back to prison or release them on probation. As part of a plea agreement made with Bonneville County Prosecutors, three additional felony counts of possession of child pornography were dismissed. RELATED | Local man admits to using Tumblr to access child pornography, court documents say The Idaho Falls Police Department began investigating Hillyard before his arrest in 2020 after Tumblr, a microblogging and social media network, alerted authorities of child pornography on Hillyard’s account. According to an affidavit of probable cause, Hillyard admitted to police he had used his…

17 K-Dramas That Will Make Actually Make You Swoon

Settle in for hours of tropey goodness. So many K-Dramas are great for romance fans. They typically run for single seasons of 16 episodes (sometimes slightly more or less), and often have a heavy focus on a central love story. If that's your idea of comfort viewing, here are some absolute must-watches... 1. Romance is a Bonus Book tvN / Via nurabiaylmaz.tumblr.com This is like Younger, but better. Dan-i took time off from her successful career to raise a child and now she's divorced and struggling to get hired again. She lies about her qualifications (saying she has less than she does) in order to get a support job at the publishing company where her best friend Eun-ho works. She also winds up living with him, so there's a lot of forced proximity goodness as their relationship grows and changes. 2. Crash Landing On You tvN / Via cookiesandcontemplation.tumblr.com This drama is both quite silly and absolutely devastating. Se-ri is a rich South Korean heiress and businesswoman who finds herself in North Korea after a paragliding accident (there's the silly). North Korean military captain Jeong-hyeok tries to help her get home, and the two begin to fall in love (there's…

A Tumblr user predicted Venom: Let There Be Carnage's breakfast scene

The trailer for Venom: Let There Be Carnage has plenty of symbiote action, but all anyone on Tumblr can talk about is the scene where the symbiote makes breakfast for Eddie. In fact, last April, a Tumblr user made a post that basically predicted the plot point: I want Venom 2 to start off with a peppy song playing while Eddie makes breakfast or something. It should have visual gags such as Venom opening the fridge for him to retrieve eggs while he’s at the stove to show how their relationship has developed between the first and second movie and how they really are in sync and in a mutualistic symbiosis thanks Victoria, the Tumblr user behind the post, says that she made the post when the Venom sequel was originally supposed to come out in October 2020. She’d been a huge fan of the first movie, pleasantly surprised by the buddy comedy-horror fusion and banter between Eddie and Venom. Excited for the sequel, she took to Tumblr with a wishful prediction for the movie. “My immediate go-to was something funny that would help bridge the gap between what we saw at the ending of the first movie and what…

Album review: Twenty One Pilots delivers dynamic sound, battles inauthenticity in 'Scaled and Icy'

Twenty One Pilots has scaled up its production and chilled out its melodies. While better known for its Tumblr-esque emo hits like “Stressed Out” and “Ride,” the duo’s sixth studio album “Scaled and Icy” is a significant deviation from its alternative sound. Written throughout the pandemic, Twenty One Pilots’ most recent album explores a range of narratives and emotions, such as heartfelt family conversations and humorous narratives of fleeing to Mexico, ultimately offering a more hopeful glimpse of the world. While the duo Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun remain true to the world building and metaphorical lyricism of their prior albums, the retro-inspired production of their recent album unfortunately feels inauthentic at times. The duo opens the album with the bouncing piano chords and ukulele strums of “Good Day.” Though the melody of the song is motivating and optimistic, the gloomy lyrics behind Joseph’s jubilant voice bridge the gap between their new animated sound and the darker tone of their prior album, “Trench.” The retro-inspired sound is perfected in “Shy Away,” the lead single from the album. The track plays to Joseph and Dun’s strengths, with the strumming guitars accentuating Dun’s drumming talents. Soft backing vocals provide a coursing melody…

All the Olivia Rodrigo Lyrics From Sour You Could've Used in High School

The category is ANGST. Photo: Olivia Rodrigo/YouTube This one’s for those of us who had to get through bad high-school breakups with only the twang of Taylor Swift’s early lyrics to survive. Our only hope for the future, Olivia Rodrigo, took notes and has supplied the angsty, insecure, unsure but unstoppable album we needed with Sour, her debut album. Sure, the 18-year-old High School Musical: The Musical: The Series star went through her high-school heartbreak from the set of a Disney show, but the universal experience of moving on from a fuckboy transcends demographic. (Plus, her confessional lyrics spill the goss between her and her co-star Joshua Bassett that they can’t say out loud. It’s service, really.) If this were 2013, black-and-white edits of Olivia Rodrigo’s lyrics would be filling tumblr blogs and Pinterest boards right now. Below, we’ve covered all possible Instagram caption and subtweet needs — including you, Miss Rodrigo. Don’t let that boy forget what he did. “And I’m so sick of 17 / Where’s my fuckin’ teenage dream? / If someone tells me one more time / ‘Enjoy your youth,’ I’m gonna cry.”  Congratulations to everyone turning 18 this year. Your Instagram caption just wrote itself.…
