Back in May 2014, I was paired up with the artist Kevin McCoy at Seven on Seven, an annual event in New York City designed to spark new ideas by connecting technologists and artists. I wasn’t sure which one I was supposed to be; McCoy and his wife, Jennifer, were already renowned for their collaborative digital art, and he was better at coding than I was.At the time, I was working as a consultant to auction houses and media companies—a role that had me obsessively thinking about the provenance, ownership, distribution, and control of artworks. Seven on Seven was modeled after tech-industry hackathons, in which people stay up all night to create a working prototype that they then show to an audience. BUDDING artists are being given the opportunity to have their work hung in a Kirkcudbright art gallery over the summer. The Bardennoch exhibition at the Mitchell Gallery invites young and early careers artists aged 17 to 26 from Dumfries and Galloway to submit existing works or create new pieces that address their relationship with the region. Entrants are urged to enter artwork that best reflects their experiences of rurality, community and the geography of the region. The exhibition will showcase works that demonstrate artistic merit at an emerging stage, in the early stage of their career as they gain experience and develop an individual style. The selected works will hang in the Mitchell Gallery from June, with artists having the opportunity to sell their works. The remaining members of Soundgarden have accused Vicky Cornell of locking them out of the band’s website and social media accounts. Official court papers filed in Washington D.C. see band members Kim Thayil, Matt Cameron and Ben Shepherd, as well as their business manager Rit Venerus, accuse Cornell of locking them out of their Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Vimeo, YouTube, Snapchat, Tumblr, Top Spin and Pinterest accounts. Cornell, the widow of the late Chris Cornell, also stands accused of changing the passwords to the band’s website. A Covington man was charged with possessing 50 images of child pornography after months of investigation by the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s office.Dale Edward Davidson, 53, was charged on March 24 with 50 counts of sexual abuse of children (child pornography), felonies of the second degree, and one count of criminal use of a communication facility.According to court documents, on July 23, 2020, blog website Tumblr reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that a user uploaded a suspected image of child pornography. The tip was turned over to the PA Attorney General’s office, which reportedly confirmed that the image depicted children under the age of 18 engaged in sexual contact.The email address used with the Tumblr account was reportedly found to be registered to Dale Davidson. The IP (internet protocol) address associated with the account was allegedly traced to an address on Canada Road, Covington, where the AG’s office began surveillance. On March 24, AG agents and PA State Police troopers executed a search warrant at Davidson’s home. Davidson reportedly told agents that the email address linked to the Tumblr account was his and that images of child pornography could be found on his cell phone.Agents found…

Unsplash has announced that as of today it is being acquired by Getty Images. In a blog post, Unsplash’s founder Mikael Cho says that it will continue to operate as a standalone brand inside of Getty and that the free content model won’t be changing. Unsplash launched in 2013 as a simple Tumblr blog with free photos, and it has since become well-known as a free photography stock site where photographers upload full-resolution images to the platform. Those photos can then be downloaded and used by anyone for any purpose without requiring attribution (though Unsplash does encourage it). The company has been somewhat controversial among photographers over the years, as people see it as a contributor to lowering the pay rate bar for both stock photographers and the value of photography overall. The contemporary understanding of the term has completely changed to now align with a collection of visuals that represent a broad array of concepts ranging from historical eras, locations, genres of fiction, music, and even pre-existing subcultures. The most prevalent of 2021 aesthetics can be narrowed down to two categories: Cottagecore, an aesthetic that romanticizes cottage life, and Dark Academia, a style that engages in the eerie visuals of early 20th-century academia. As these two aesthetics—along with many other similar aesthetics—gain popularity in the online lives of young people, it becomes important to understand how they arose, what they are, and what their modern-day implications may be.
