Why TwitchCon's Drag Showcase was so important | Eurogamer.net

"We can and should keep shining in our brightest colours." Aubrey Wodonga at TwitchCon For many, TwitchCon Amsterdam was a chance for the streaming community to meet each other, chat with brands, and watch some esports tournaments - notably Twitch Rivals. But it was the event's drag showcase that was really the talk of the convention. Capping off the first day, the TwitchCon Drag Showcase was the first event of its kind and saw over 60,000 people watching in the centre's Glitch Theatre and streaming online - many of whom had never seen a drag show before. Not only was the drag showcase the epicentre of LGBT+ representation at the convention, it was an opportunity to highlight the diversity of talent on Twitch. There's far more to the platform than just playing video games, even if that's done in makeup and a wig. Eurogamer Newscast: Why are video game companies still trying to flog NFTs? The showcase, which I made sure to attend, was presented by Irish queens Dona Tarte and Nikkie Stones. "Not only did Twitch invite and bring over a handful of queer artists to their convention on a prime time slot, but they entrusted it to myself,…

Twitch turns popular charity and safety tools into built-in features – The Washington Post

This week, Twitch launched two new features, Twitch Charity and Shared Ban Info, inspired by practices and tools developed by its community. They’ve been well received after a year in which Twitch has been accused by ex-employees and streamers of forsaking community in pursuit of profit.Twitch Charity, which entered beta on Tuesday, is a built-in fundraising feature that allows streamers to set a goal and enter “charity mode.” This displays a donation button and progress meter next to a broadcast, the proceeds of which go to a charity of the streamer’s choosing via PayPal’s donation system, the PayPal Giving Fund. As a result, Twitch does not take a cut.Charity streams are immensely popular on Twitch, with streamers collectively (and sometimes individually) managing to raise millions for causes like humanitarian efforts in Ukraine and St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. For years, streamers have had to rely on third-party tools and companies like Tiltify and Softgiving, the latter of which has faced criticism for quietly helping major streamers profit off charity work.“Why is this better? 'Simplifying a lot of logistical hassles’ is a pretty decent TL;DR answer,” Twitch wrote in a blog announcing the feature. “For streamers, it makes raising money for…

In some months, she streams games like Valorant for 100 hours a week or more. No matter how fun she has with the games she plays, that’s quite the demanding schedule. The powers that be at Twitch are probably hoping that Anys’ latest streaming stop doesn’t last too long. In an era when…

Twitch Bans Trans Streamer Keffals For Speaking Out About Abuse – Kotaku

Screenshot: YouTube / Keffals / KotakuTrans streamer Clara “Keffals” Sorrenti made a name for herself on Twitch as an outspoken advocate on LGBTQ+ issues in late February of this year after Texas Governor George Abbott directed the Department of Family and Protective Services to investigate the parents of trans kids for child abuse. 'It's very heartbreaking': Sister of masked woman who harassed livestreamers speaks out

SINGAPORE: The sister of the woman who was recently captured on a viral video kicking a couple's food said she hopes the incident can raise awareness about the struggles that people with mental health issues face. In the video, the woman was heard telling the couple, who were livestreaming outside an MRT station, that they were not allowed to take a video there. She ordered them to “switch off that thing before I call the police”.  The couple refused to and exchanged words with her, and she kicked over their bags of food. The female streamer followed her and appeared to slap her on the back. After a commotion, another female passer-by eventually restrained the masked woman. The Jun 28 incident was streamed live on the Twitch platform and an article about the incident was later published by alternative news site MustShareNews. One of its TikTok videos, cut from the original livestream, amassed 1.2 million views on the social media platform.  Online comments appeared to be split into two camps. Some expressed support for the female streamer who hit back, while others called the masked woman "siao" (Hokkien for "crazy"). Some TikTok users even used the original audio of the woman’s voice…

The Bulking Diet: Necessary or Nonsense? – T-Nation

The Bulking Diet: Two Types Bulking is one of those irritating buzzwords that could mean multiple things. Here are the two most common ways the bulking diet strategy is used: Bulking Like a Jackass: The practice of consuming junk food and a very large caloric surplus to "force" the body to build muscle while accepting a significant amount of fat gain. This kind of bulking isn't necessary and will likely backfire. Bulking Like an Adult: The practice of consuming a modest surplus of healthy calories to build muscle while accepting some fat gain in the process. This type of bulking is necessary for someone who has a hard time building muscle – naturally skinny guys or "hardgainers." Let's break those down. Easy Gainers Vs. Hardgainers The more anabolic you are, the less of a caloric surplus you'll need to build muscle. To keep things simple, just think of "anabolic" as muscle growth and "catabolic" as muscle breakdown. Being anabolic doesn't necessarily mean you're on steroids. Although anabolic steroids are anabolic (shocker), it simply means they build muscle. But your own body produces anabolic (building) and catabolic (breaking down) hormones and enzymes. For example, the testosterone, growth hormone, insulin, and IGF-1…
