Stigma, harassment face many female Twitch streamers. Here's how Paru deals – SPIN.ph

STREAMING has become increasingly popular ever since the pandemic forced almost everybody to stay inside their own homes. During lockdown season, many discovered that streaming could an alternative way to entertain yourself... and earn money. Meanwhile, for viewers, the appeal of watching streamers ranges from admiring skilled gameplay to the social aspect of being able to interact with a slew of people with similar interests. Serena “Paru” Parlade is a Twitch streamer (twitch.tv/sadparu) whose growing community was built over several years. She is currently a college student taking BA Journalism at the University of the Philippines, but she says that even if she graduates and gets into another career, she feels that streaming will still be a major part of her life. Her interest in streaming actually started way back when, as she would sit down with her family to watch late night shows with Jay Leno or Conan O’Brien. “I told myself at the time, I want to have a talk show," she said to Spin.ph. "And then I eventually ended up loving video games. Streaming for me is a talk show and playing games, so it was a very natural progression.” Paru considers herself an introvert,…

Twitch Streamer STPeach Banned Again – Game Rant

Twitch once again bans streamer Lisa “STPeach” Vannatta from the platform, only about a month after her racy content last got her in trouble. Twitch terms of service aren't always the easiest to understand or consistently enforced. For example, Hasan Piker’s ban in December triggered heated discourse over whether the word “cracker” constitutes a slur or hate speech. The platform also has a reputation for cracking down harder on some content creators than others. Still, certain streamers seem to attract bans more often than others. Twitch streamer Lisa “STPeach” Vannatta is one such example, attracting multiple bans over her career. The latest one happened today, April 11th, just over a month after the last time she was banned from the Amazon-owned live streaming platform. Twitch has yet to offer a reason for the ban, though it may have something to do with STPeach’s long-running use of risqué content. Her previous ban came after the 28-year-old streamer donned her somewhat revealing outfit that looked like Cammy from Street Fighter. She was also one of several “suggestive streamers” named in a $25 million lawsuit brought against Twitch in 2020. So, while it’s not clear what precisely STPeach did to earn her latest…

Apex Legends Pros Engage In Real Flat Earth Debate On Twitch – Kotaku

Screenshot: TeQ / Twitch / KotakuI just watched a debate between two professional Apex Legends players about whether or not the Earth is flat, and I feel like my brain is leaking out of my ears. On April 10, two Apex pros livestreamed a friendly discussion about the shape of the planet we live on. Esteban “NanoFRYS” Gomez, a player with Counter Logic Gaming, represented the flat Earth viewpoint, while Will “TeQ” Starck, currently with FURIA Esports, bravely stood up for the theory of a round Earth. The two went at it for almost two hours, which is incredibly impressive to me. If I had to debate a flat Earther, I’m pretty sure that I would have crumbled much sooner than that. This all started when Starck tweeted, “Do any flat earthers follow me?” and someone tagged Gomez in the replies. Starck told Kotaku that he thought taking their convo to Twitch would be good content because of his background. You see, in addition to being a professional Apex player, Starck is also an aerospace engineer at MIT. At first, I thought that perhaps the Twitch debate that ensued between the two of them was a bit, and that Gomez…

On April 8th, Twitch star Felix ‘xQc’ Lengyel revealed that he was starting a podcast together with fellow streamer Imane ‘Pokimane’ Anys. However, the podcast, the first episode of which was supposed to take place on April 9th, didn’t go quite as planned. The podcast was all set to kick off, but xQc was nowhere to be found and Pokimane was left hanging in front of her audience during the live stream. When asked by her fans on why xQc was absent, Pokimane tried to explain why she thought he didn’t show up. Poki didn’t blame xQc for his absence though, and claimed that he might have misunderstood her words or lost track of time.“I think he forgot that today was Saturday,” the 25-year-old said. “Or maybe he thought that I meant next Saturday? I don’t know. But I really think he just lost track of the days, which happens. It happened to me”It’s likely that the podcast will be rescheduled in the near future, and given the individual popularity of these streamers, the podcast is almost certain to be a huge hit among their fan bases.
