Twitch suspends boost train feature after porn added to front page – Eurogamer

Discoverability experiments continue. Twitch has suspended its paid boost train feature after porn was boosted to the front page. The feature was introduced in March this year, but bears a resemblance to the paid boosts programme that ended in late 2021, as clarified by a Twitch representative to PC Gamer. This new feature works similarly, however, and takes the place of a hype train - subscriptions and bits thrown can now contribute to a boost train that pushes a stream to the front page of Twitch. Eurogamer Newscast: Is PlayStation Plus Premium a Game Pass killer? The feature has already been abused, however. Reports on Twitter and Reddit show that pornographic streams are being boosted to the front page (beware those links are NSFW). These streams were tagged with a "promoted by the streamer's community" label, so clearly were boosted by the new feature.A Twitch representative told PC Gamer that the feature has since been paused because of safety-related issues that came up during testing. No further reasoning was given, nor was it confirmed if the feature will return. Twitch is clearly experimenting with ways streamers can boost discoverability on the platform, something that needs improving to boost the visibility of smaller and…

Twitch Desktop App will be retired in late April – EconoTimes

Twitch has started informing users and creators that the Twitch Desktop App will be closing in a month. And it appears that low user count may have been one of the reasons it is being retired. Several users reported on Wednesday that they received an email from Twitch telling them about the imminent shutdown of the Twitch Desktop App. This was later confirmed by the company by adding a note on a support page (via Digital Trends) on how to uninstall the app. “We‘ve made the difficult decision to say goodbye to the Twitch Desktop App on April 30th,” Twitch said. “This decision was not made lightly and came from a combination of usage and user feedback.” It appears that the number of regular users of the Twitch Desktop App was not high enough to keep it running. There are varying reactions on Twitter about the announcement. Some users say they liked the app because they prefer navigating through Twitch on a dedicated app instead of having other browser tabs. Others, however, are fine with its retirement, saying they do not use the app that often. Meanwhile, it does not look like the streaming platform is going to release any…

Twitch is the platform streaming reference for content creators, with staggering numbers and steady growth in views, the company has been making changes that have been real headaches for streamers, facing mass bans over the new law that allows creators to be directly sued for copyright. Content creators have seen how the copyrighted audio became a stone in their shoe and to help them have better control over their videos, Twitch has launched some new warnings copyrighted audio. “If our system detects copyrighted audio in your VoDs or clips, it will automatically mute the VoD and remove associated clips from your channel. The 33-year-old is among the most provocative of the streamers on the streaming service. This is the streamer’s 6th ban in a span of just 4 years. And it has proved time and again that he is not one to shy away from courting controversy on the internet. Fans speculated about the reasons he could be facing a ban again. But with Destiny and Twitch both yet to come up with an official explanation on this matter, the speculations will keep coming in thick and fast. Fans Attribute Reasons Behind Ban On Destiny Fans attribute Destiny’s ban to the debate he had on March 20 with Nick Fuentes, a far-right radical figure. Pokimane and xQc nearly got banned from Fortnite – ClutchPoints

Just recently, popular Twitch Streamers Pokimane and xQc co-streamed Fortnite together. Due to the major involvement of stream snipers in their lobby, the Twitch stars nearly received the banhammer.  In their most recent streams, both Pokimane and xQc decided to play some duos in Fortnite. This resulted in several stream snipers sabotaging the duo’s gameplay which slightly frustrated both streamers. Each match they’d enter, stream snipers just wouldn’t give up on eliminating the star duo. As a result, xQc came up with a brilliantly unique idea to deal with the stream snipers.  In their next few games, xQc decided to invite streamers to land wherever he and Pokimane were landing. The Queen of Twitch also added a stipulation mentioning that the duo will not shoot anyone unless attacked. To the Twitch Streamers’ surprise, almost the entire lobby landed where they both landed. Of course, unsurprisingly it didn’t take too long before all hell broke loose. However, the match didn’t end there just yet as only a few casualties were committed. As the match progressed, xQc and Pokimane with the entire lobby following them, found themselves in the Daily Bugle. This was when the final moments of the match took place.…

Politics streamer Destiny receives indefinite ban from Twitch | PC Gamer

Home News (Image credit: Destiny) A politics-focused streamer called Destiny has been indefinitely banned from Twitch. A screenshot Destiny shared to his subreddit indicates that the ban can only be lifted on appeal, and that it was applied for "Promoting, encouraging, or facilitating the discrimination or denigration of a group of people based on their protected characteristics."Twitch has not provided a definitive motivation for the ban beyond that, but one possibility is that it was related to this clip which survived his account's deletion. In it, Destiny muses about the gender affirmation surgery of a rival streamer, before mentioning the temptation of "41% jokes," a reference to the rate of suicide attempts reported by trans people in the United States in the 2012 National Transgender Discrimination Survey. These comments come in the context of high-profile legislation by the US states of Utah and Texas against trans youth, and an increasing climate of hostility towards the trans community. For her part, the streamer Destiny was feuding with, keffals, has recently raised over $52,000 for the Equality Texas Foundation, which advocates for the Texan LGBTQ community. This isn't the first time Twitch has opted for an indefinite permanent ban against a high-profile streamer.
