Reddit sues Australia over under-16 ban on social media – Silicon Republic

Reddit claims that the ban infringes the ‘implied freedom of political communication’. Popular online forum Reddit has filed a lawsuit against the Australian government over the country’s social media ban for minors which came into force this Wednesday (10 December). The landmark legislation, a part of the country’s Online Safety Act, marks the world’s first social media ban for under-16s as a measure to bolster child safety on the internet. The ban affects Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X, YouTube, Snapchat, Reddit, Kick, Twitch and TikTok. In its lawsuit filed today (12 December), Reddit claimed that the ban infringes the “implied freedom of political communication” and should be “invalid”. In a statement accompanying the filing, the platform claimed that the law “has the unfortunate effect of forcing intrusive and potentially insecure verification processes on adults as well as minors”. It also said that the law is “inaccurately” applied to the platform. “We’re a forum primarily for adults and we don’t have the traditional social media features the government has taken issue with,” the statement on r/RedditSafety said. Currently, Reddit is still complying with the regulation, which requires the designated platforms to employ measures such as age estimation through facial or voice recognition

Twitch streamers Dezz and YourRAGE’s feud explained – Sportskeeda

Following the recent accusations against Clover Boys member Dezz, who was alleged to have made sexually abusive comments against streamer and Streamer Awards 2025 host, Fanfan, FaZe Clan's YourRAGE encouraged the Clover Boys member to address the allegations and share his side of the story. The latter responded and denied any wrongdoing. The comments stem from a conversation TheStockGuy heard while in the men's room. Just before the conversation, Tylil James criticized Fanfan for making a joke against his close associate, Twitch star Kai Cenat. James claimed the joke, which compared Cenat to rapper P-Diddy, was unfunny. In the men's room, TheStockGuy allegedly heard Dezz call out Fanfan, saying: "As I walk in the bathroom, I hear somebody come in and go, 'Yo! F**k that b**ch! Man, f**k that b**ch! I'll f**king toss that b**ch! I'll f**king knock her f**king teeth out! How she gonna suck d**k with no teeth?! Man, f**k that b**ch! Who the f**k she thinks...'" After these allegations went viral, YourRAGE discussed them, saying that if they were true, the Clover Boys member was in the wrong: "If, if, if...If it was the case... and he actually said that sh*t, bro... We gotta handle our emotions

‘I love when my enemies hate me’: how Hasan Piker became one of the biggest voices on the US left

Hasan Piker calls it the bus driver test: “You get on a bus and you have 30 seconds to explain whatever online phenomena took place to the bus driver without them looking at you and going, ‘Get off the fucking bus.’” Most online discourse, no matter how heated, fails the test, he says – not least an incident last weekend, when someone on a Dublin street asked to take a picture with Piker, then held up a picture of his dog and shouted “Free Kaya!” Never mind the bus driver; trying to explain the significance of this particular event might well take the rest of this article, but the wider point is that there is a jarring overlap, or more often disconnect, between the online and offline worlds. Piker finds himself in this in-between space more and more these days. Until fairly recently, the 34-year-old was familiar only to the very online, especially Americans in their 20s and 30s, largely thanks to his presence on the streaming channel Twitch, where he has 3 million followers. But since Donald Trump’s election, Piker has become an in-demand voice in “the real world” for his views on the beleaguered political left, and especially
