Popular streamer Nina Lin has apologized after resurfaced footage of a May 2024 stream ignited controversy. In the stream, Nina and Zoe Spencer were shown restraining and twerking on an uncomfortable-seeming Said, the assistant of FaZe Silky. Onlookers present during the stream can be heard expressing disapproval, and some of them suggest that Said was not consenting. Later footage appears to show attempts to usher Said onto a bed. Viewers noted that Said tried repeatedly to escape, even hiding upstairs before being brought back to continue the stream. After the original stream, Said posted on social media that he felt assaulted, but later deleted his posts. The resurfacing of the footage has sparked renewed outrage online. After the footage resurfaced, Said said in a now-deleted X post that "I've been vocal about the situation originally and nobody cared." At billions of parameters at four bytes each, they pose a serious challenge when it comes to not just their size on disk, but also in RAM, specifically the RAM of your videocard (VRAM). Reducing this immense size, as is done routinely for the smaller pretrained models which one can download for local use, involves quantization. This process is explained and demonstrated by , who takes it to its logical extreme: reducing what could be a GB-sized model down to a mere 63 MB by reducing the bits per parameter. While you can offload a model, i.e. keep only part of it in VRAM and the rest in system RAM, this massively impacts performance. An alternative is to use fewer bits per weight in the model, called ‘compression’, which typically involves reducing 16-bit floating point to 8-bit, reducing memory usage by about 75%. One developer has made a proof of concept in which you play as a streamer hunting for ghosts in a forest. The problem is that you can't see the ghouls; only the simulated chat can see them. You have to use their comments to try to find what's lurking in the shadows. It's a very short game for now and with fairly basic art, but over on Reddit people think the idea has viral potential. It's not the first horror game with a simulated live chat mechanic. There was Restreamed and FeedVid, but the haunted forest setting seems perfect for this idea, and brings a found-footage Blair Witch vibe to it. The chat is fully simulated, which the developer says this was done “haphazardly” since it was a game jam game.
