Twitch Backlash Grows Over Amazon’s AI Training – Digital Pakistan

Twitch sparks outrage as Amazon uses creators’ content to train AI by default, leaving streamers questioning consent and transparency despite opt-out options. Twitch, the Amazon-owned streaming giant, is under fire after revealing that creators’ content is automatically used to train Amazon’s generative AI models unless they manually opt out. The announcement, reported by BBC, has sparked outrage among streamers who argue the default setting undermines their consent. Chief Product Officer Mike Minton admitted during a livestream: “If it’s opt-in, nobody would opt-in. That’s the honest answer.” His candid remark fueled criticism, with one streamer calling the move “criminal” and another lamenting that Twitch missed an “opportunity to set an industry standard” against forced data collection. Generative AI, which powers tools like ChatGPT and Gemini, creates new content from existing data. Twitch explained that user audio could be used to refine speech-to-text models, improving subtitles across Amazon platforms. However, creators worry about broader implications, especially for game developers whose titles are streamed extensively. Mary Kish, Twitch’s head of community, walked viewers through disabling the feature via channel settings. Yet some users reported the toggle reactivating itself, raising concerns about transparency. Kish acknowledged the frustration, saying: “We don’t expect you to be

Twitch streamer Hasan Piker asks Democratic leaders to defend him from Republicans

By Rajwa Quasim Twitch streamer and left-wing political commentator Hasan Piker called on Democratic Party leaders to publicly defend him against the attacks of Republicans. He urged Democrats to consider him as one of their own despite different views in certain issues. During a livestream on Wednesday, he declared himself part of the Democratic coalition. He criticized Republicans for using him to distract the voters instead of having a conversation on real issues such as the “cost-of-living crisis.” “Democrats, listen to me, I know we don’t always see eye to eye on a lot of stuff, but you have to literally, at some point — I know you don’t want to do this — defend me. Not because you love what I have to say, not because I’m part of this coalition, even though I am, whether you like it or not, but you are going to inevitably have to say, ‘This is a ridiculous conversation that we’re having because the real conversation Republicans don’t want to have is the cost-of-living crisis.’ That requires you to basically to take the L a little bit and maybe be a bit more honest about how I’m not this dangerous, toxic radical force,”

Amazon’s Twitch is using livestreams to train its generative AI, and nobody’s happy with it

by Thomas Wilde on Aug 14, 2026 at 3:19 pm August 14, 2026 at 3:19 pm (GeekWire File Photo) Amazon indicated for the first time this week that any video broadcast via its livestreaming platform Twitch could be used to train generative AI, unless users take steps to avoid it, which has caused a significant backlash from both audiences and content creators. The story began with a post on the official Twitch Support account on X (formerly Twitter) which informed users of the existence of a new option on the Twitch dashboard. That option lets users opt out of Amazon using content on their channel to train generative AI. That, in turn, served as a couple of additional implicit announcements: Amazon intends to feed Twitch content into its generative AI models, and this option is enabled by default for all Twitch accounts.. You have to actively turn it off or anything you broadcast via Twitch could be fed into “generative AI content models at Amazon.” According to Twitch’s FAQ, the data gathered from Twitch may be used to train a future model “whose purpose is to generate or synthesize text, audio, images, or video.” (To opt out of Amazon’s training

‘If it was opt-in, nobody would opt in.’ | The Verge

Posted Aug 13, 2026 at 9:09 AM UTC J Jess Weatherbed ‘If it was opt-in, nobody would opt in.’ According to Twitch chief product officer Mike Minton, that’s the “honest answer” as to why the streaming platform has started training Amazon’s generative AI models on users’ content by default. Twitch users can choose to opt out, but Minton defends the default setting because “almost every content service in the world” is also doing it. How To Stop Twitch From Training AI On Your Streams – AOL.com

Twitch recently confirmed it will use streamers' content to train its generative AI models. The Amazon-owned platform is automatically opting all users in to the feature. And in the most predictable turn of events possible: the move has not gone over well, to put it mildly. Within hours of Twitch's announcement, nearly 14,000 people had upvoted a comment on the company's support forum demanding the platform make the setting opt-in and not opt-out. "We as creators should have the choice whether to use AI or not on our channels," it said. The post has thousands of comments echoing the sentiment, many of which did so in more forceful terms. Users can opt out from the web via their account settings by clicking on your avatar (towards the top right of your screen) and heading to Settings > Security and Privacy and scrolling down to "Training for Generative AI." HasanAbi calls for permanent Asmongold ban from Twitch and YouTube as streamer feud explodes

HasanAbi has reignited a fierce debate over streamer moderation after arguing that Asmongold should face permanent bans from both Twitch and YouTube. His comments came after Asmongold defended remarks that led to his recent Twitch suspension. Hasan questioned whether major platforms still enforce their rules consistently, while also pointing to what he sees as growing pressure from political groups and online campaigns. HasanAbi says Asmongold should be permanently banned During a livestream on August 9, HasanAbi responded to Asmongold’s YouTube video Why I'm Gone, in which the streamer addressed his two-week Twitch suspension. The controversy followed comments in which Asmongold described immigrants using dehumanizing language and advocated shooting people, including children, in a discussion about immigration. Rather than apologizing, Asmongold said he stood by his comments. That response became the focus of Hasan’s criticism. Hasan argued that Asmongold appeared to be testing how far Twitch and YouTube would allow him to go before taking stronger action. He also compared the current moderation environment with what he believes would have happened several years ago. "It's pretty wild that I feel like this is a test. Right? He's basically testing the boundaries of Twitch to be like, 'Listen, what are you going

Broker-Turned-Finfluencer Gets Two Years in Prison for Fraud – AdvisorHub

A suspended securities broker who reinvented himself as a “finfluencer” known as “K Money” was sentenced to two years in prison for defrauding investors out of hundreds of thousands of dollars. Kenneth Thom received his sentence Tuesday, less than five months after pleading guilty to investment adviser fraud. The rise of social media influencers who dispense investment advice to their followers has raised concerns among regulators. Though a number of “finfluencers” partner with Wall Street firms, others peddle their own financial products. The trend has resulted in a number of arrests. Prosecutors said Thom, 42, promoted himself as a successful trader and Wall Street “luminary” on Facebook, Instagram and Twitch. Using the names “K$” and “K Money,” he sold trading courses and suggestions to his followers. In late 2023, he invited members of one of his Facebook groups to participate in shared accounts that he said he would manage in exchange for a share of any trading profits.  Thom, of Westfield, New Jersey, raised more than $800,000 from more than five dozen investors, according to the government, but invested only $350,000, spending the rest on himself, including purchases at Hermès, flights to France and travel in Japan. Of the $350,000 he invested, he lost more
