PASAY CITY, May 12 --  The CCP Arthouse Cinema salutes the Filipino workers in this month’s film offerings, slated from May 14 to 21 via the CCP Vimeo Channel. Watch selected films and documentaries from Gawad Alternatibo which mirror the daily plight of Filipino workers, our modern day heroes who serve as the foundation of our nation. Take a peek into the lives of factory workers in Jon Red’s Ang Pabrika.  In the 10-minute film, for Juaniyo and the rest of the workers, the factory is their life, home and the world. Directed by Cha Escala and Emerald Hidalgo, “Pasko ni Intoy (Intoy's Christmas)” is a 30-minute video documentary that portrays the bitter-sweet Christmas of a child-laborer in a remote, swampy community in Leyte. Now, online video platform Vimeo is preparing to be the next big spinoff. IAC shareholders are expected to formally approve the split this Friday, paving the way for Vimeo to trade on its own on May 25 under the ticker symbol VMEO. The maker of video software and editing tools for more than 1.6 million subscribers just reported a profitable quarter with revenue of nearly $300 million, a 57% surge from a year ago. The company has also raised $450 million in funding from outside sources, including a November capital infusion from Thrive Capital and Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund GIC. T. Rowe Price invested in January. Those deals value Vimeo at around $6 billion. Spinning off from IAC has worked out well so far for Match. The Cyprus High Commission is presenting a series of concerts in partnership with the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra this month. A selection of classical masterpieces by major composers, including Tchaikovsky, Vivaldi, and Mozart, will be presented in three online concerts.
